    2. Andrew Hart Paxton wrote an historical sketch of his family, at the request of his children, in Jan., Feb., and March, 1870. It was finished by his brother James in June, 1871. I am copying the last page of this sketch, written by James Paxton. (It is similar to what is written in the Paxton book, p.313.) It is copied as written. Note: commas are not used after the day, but the quote mark was used. XXIII "Margaret Paxton was born in Adams Co., Pa., six miles from Gettysburg, May 1" 1811. She was married to Samuel V. Erskine, Sept. 9" 1841, by Rev. Samuel Taggart. They lived in Brook Co., Va. about three miles from Bethany for twenty one years. Her husband died July 30" 1862 aged 53 years and 7 months. They had four daughters, Maria Jane was born Oct 28" 1842. Died Mch 9" 1851. Isabella Sarah, was born Dec. 5" 1844 and was married to John M. Timmons, Mch 9" 1865. They are living at this date, June, 1871 in Ohio Co., West Va. near Triadelphia. Clarinda Margaret was born May 6" 1848, Amanda Vance was born Jan. 5" 1853. Mrs. Erskin and her two daughters are living at this date, June 1871, in West Alexander, Wash. Co., Pa." VII ....." and the present pastor Rev. S. Taggart, was settled at West Middletown." (A. R. Congregation of West Middletown) This was about 1835. West Middletown, Hopewell Township, Wash. Co., Pa. Margaret and Samuel must have been married in West Middletown. A.R. Congregation: The Union of the Associate and Reformed Churches was in 1782. Does anyone have any information about the A. R. Congregation? What is it called today? Sue

    1. [PAXTON-L] Re: Margaret PAXTON & Samuel V. ERSKINE
    2. Hello Christine, I have just been reading through an original letter written in 1870 by Andrew Hart Paxton (my father had it in his papers and I have just obtained all his papers and photos from his side of the Paxton family, am now reading through them and seeing just what is there!). Andrew Hart Paxton is my g-g-Grandfather. Margaret Paxton is a sister of Andrew Hart Paxton and I do have some information about her family. I need to re-read that section and I will put all the Margaret information on line. The Paxton book has Margaret marrying Samuel Gault (p. 309)---so the letter I am reading contridicts the book! This was interesting to me. The letter has Margaret's daughter Isabella Sarah marrying John M. Timmons. I would like to communicate with you further about Ashland Co., Ohio. Where did the Erskine family live in Ohio? Andrew Hart Paxton family moved to Savannah, Ohio. We are 'cousins' of some number---more later today. I was on my way out and just stopped to check some e-mails and will be here for hours if I do not get out now. I agree that the 'Paxton Boys' were not Paxton's but lived in the town of Paxton, from all the information I can find. Sue

    1. [PAXTON-L] Margaret Paxton of western Pa.-1800s
    2. Howdy list. Im looking for information on the family of Margaret Paxton who married Samuel Erskine. This is what I know of this branch of my family. Margaret is my paternal grandma's grandma. She is buried in West Alexander Cemetary in West Alexander PA. near the Pa./ W.Va. line. She died in the Mid 1800s (possibly in 1862 have to verify next time Im there). She was to be reportedly related to the notorious "Paxton Boys" who attacked the Morvavian Delaware in response to an Indian attack on their compound. Her husband was the grandson of General Robert Erskine of the Revolutionary War the g grandson of Rev. Ralph Erskine of Scotland so I am assuming her family was Scots in origin. Samuel Erskine most likely came from the East Coast (New Jersey) Both Samuel and Margaret are believed to be of the Presbyterian Faith. Any info on these folks would be most apperciated. I have the photo album of their daughter Isabella Erskine Timmons. Its dated Christmas !883. I dont know who is who in it but some of the pictures were taken in Ashland Ohio. Our family lives outside of Wheeling WVa. Any ideas folks? Your guess is as good as mine. Hope this helps someone. Thanks Christine Moore [email protected]

    3. I am looking for the ancestry of Catherine Paxton who married George Tabor on 22 September 1745 in Paston, Northamptonshire, England. Her father was possibly Abraham Paxston (sic), christened 26 February, 1729 St. John the Baptist Church, Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England, son of John and Elizabeth Paxston. The Tabors continued living in the Peterborough area but I have no trace of any Paxtons prior to Catherine and her father/grandfather. Tony Coles

    1. [PAXTON-L] Re: PAXTON-D Digest V00 #30
    2. Hello Paxton List, I am doing some family research for a cousin whose name is Paxton. I know that she descends from a Samuel Paxton and Catherine Donaldson. Not sure is this is all correct but I found that Samuel's burial record at the FHC today and his cemetery stone said he was born 10 Sept 1817 (in Ohio, verbal family history) and he died 21 March 1868....his wife Catherine Donaldson was born 1825 and died 1889 (cemetery stone)..she has a single sister Jane Donaldson that is buried with them. They are buried in Canton, Ohio I found Catherine Paxton and her sister Jane Donaldson living in Canton Ohio in the 1880 Census. Samuel and Catherine's son was Daniel Donaldson Paxton who was born 31 Aug 1844 in Canton, Stark County Ohio. (I spent all day looking at all the microfilm on 1850 Census and checked every Samuel Paxton..there were many....and none matched....so the Canton location for Daniels' birth may be wrong...verbal family history:) Daniel Donaldson Paxton and Sarah Pemiela Stevens were married in late 1870's in California.....Daniel died in Sacramento on 29 August 1913... Daniel and Sarah Paxton's children: Katherine Paxton Dec. 26, 1875 Julia L. Paxton Jan 1878, name may be Norine Emma July 22, 1880 Laura A. Paxton Oct 1882 Alvin Samuel Paxton - 2 July 1885 in Nelson, Butte County, CA Ida May Paxton- November 24, 1887 Stephen S. Paxton Dec 7, 1890 Daniel D. Paxton, Oct 22, 1893 Does anyone recognize this family? Does anyone know the parents of Samuel Paxton that married Catherine? Susan Vargas Murphy Sacramento, CA

    1. [PAXTON-L] Paxton Family from PA
    2. Hello! All New Subscribers and Fellow Paxton Researchers, I'm interested in finding information on an Aaron Paxton who was born in PA around July 1817. He was a Pennsylvania born child per the census registers. He married Hannah Marie Group on March 5, 1840. They had 10 children born in Adams County, PA., where he made a living farming. I'm looking for any possible leads to his parents or other kin in the PA area at around this time frame. He and his family are listed on the Menallen Twp., Adams County Census for 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880. He died November 19, 1886 and was buried at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Adams County, PA. His wife Hannah died July 29, 1888 and buried at his side at Mt. Tabor. I've researched Cumberland , Perry and Adams County for information that might lead me to Aaron's parents. All leads to this point have turned up a dead end. I'm turning to other Counties in hope of maybe running into someone on the Paxton line that might have an Aaron attached to it. Any information on this or any other Paxton line in Pa. would be very helpful. Thanks for your help and kindness. Regards, Craig Paxton Gardners, PA.

    2. I would greatly appreciate any help that any of you might have to get me over this brick wall that I have faced for a long time. William PAXTON b. abt. 1777 in Baltimore, MD, married Ruth SELMAN on July 23, 1802, in Frederick County, MD. He may have lived in Emmitsburg. The SELMANs came from Anne Arundel County and seem to be well documented. Not so for William PAXTON and his ancestors. William's father may have been Samuel PAXTON and his mother Mary FERGUSON, both of Frederick County, I am trying to confirm this and find other ancestors of William. Thanks: Bill [email protected]
