Hello, and thank you for your friendly welcome! The family I am researching is my great grandfather, and back from there, hopefully! He was Richard Paxton, married to Mary. They farmed at Green Hailey Farm, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, England, in the 1880's, or thereabouts. He was an educated man, and kept a journal in both Latin and Greek, but it is guarded by a reclusive relative, and one is not allowed access, sadly! I do not know if he is connected to a faming set of Paxtons from Mixbury, near Brackley, or to Jonas Paxton, an auctioneer from Bicester in the 1860's, but I have always imagined it to be so. To quote another Paxton researcher......I didn't know there were so many out there! I do hope someone may be able to shed light onto this mystery for me, and I hope to be able to help any others in turn! Kind Regards to all Jules

There is also a listing for: PAXTON, William of Savannah, Ohio; CDV taken by W.L. Edwards, Ashland, Ohio; found Norwich, Ohio 06 Jan 1996. Although I don't see why or how Mr. Payne got himself between two Paxtons, but there it is. John P. McWilliams, Jr. -of the "Dwight, Illinois clan" Researching: McWILLIAMS, CARROTT, Weagley, Latimer, Paxton, and Nixon, mostly in Ohio and Illinois from about 1780.
Hello list.......I found some information on Rootsweb--Washington Co., PA that included: a photo of-----"PAXTON, Robert F. Sr., CDV, Studio unknown. Found in Powell, Ohio on 31 Dec. 1995." I have no idea of the approximate date of the photo. I did not see this name in the Paxton book. Maybe this will help someone out there. The photo is for sale by Ford & Nagle: http://users.erinet.con/31363/fordand.htm to see the list they have and to find out how to buy. Ford & Nagle appear to be buying old photos with names on them from the Ohio and Michigan areas, along with other genealogical objects and listing them on their website. The person listing the information said she had dealt with them and was completely satisfied. I am in the process of buying one of their photos at the present time---so I do not have any comment one way or the other until I receive the photo. Also, I do NOT have any connection to Ford and Nagle--just an interest in what they have for sale. Sue

From: ........"historical sketch of our family." written by Andrew Hart Paxton with an ..."addition.....written by James Paxton (a brother of Andrew H. Paxton) at Savannah, Ohio in June, 1871. (I have the original hand written pages.) James Paxton added a few pages about his brother, Andrew H. Paxton in the "addition" of 1871. XX "He (Andrew H. Paxton) was one of the early pioneers in the anti Slavery cause, having been chosen secretary of the first anti Slavery Society ever formed in Savannah. I have often heard him speak with regret that the constitution and records of the society were lost, (word unreadable here) as the principals ennciated (spelling unclear here) and advocated at that early period have since been fully vindicated. He would have been glad to have had those records handed down to posterity." XXI "From the commencement of the great Rebellion, he had an abiding faith that in the end this great sin against God and man would be wiped out." I would be interested in any other names of people who participated in the anti-Slavery Society in Savannah, Ohio. Sue

Dear Nancy and Maranda: I have read your post Nancy regarding the William and Ruth Paxton family. Maranda - what research that you have points to John S. Paxton being "Jr."? I got my information from another list and another source and that is where I picked up the "Jr." suffix. Nancy - your post cites that William and Ruth had a son, John S. Do you know when he was born? I am just wondering if we are all looking in the wrong direction for a John S. Paxton, Sr., when one doesn't exist or was possibly a grandfather rather than a father?? Just food for thought. Take care, Barbara York ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Curran" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, April 05, 2000 9:39 PM Subject: Re: [PAXTON-L] Paxton of Wash DC : Hi Maranda, : > William PAXTON b. abt. 1777 in Baltimore, MD, married Ruth SELMAN on : > July 23, 1802, in Frederick County, MD. Florida Paxton - maybe a grandchild and orphaned or just living with : Ruth. : 5. Robert M.C. Devine & : 6. Mary Devine - my guess is that Mary and Robert had been married less : than 2 years and she was pregnant. Mary was probably related to William and : Ruth in some way, staying at Ruth's home at the time of the 1850 census. : Their child Mary was probably born after the census was taken. : 7. Thomas Green - The Greens were related in some way. Maybe same : situation as Florida Paxton. : William (b. abt. 1777) and Ruth (b. 1784) had five children: Altha, John S., : James Austin, Joseph and Thomas S.. Joseph was born in 1826 so he could not : be the father of Mary b. 1822. These siblings, all about Mary's age were : probably cousins of Mary which would account for Ruth taking Mary and her : husband, Robert Devine into her home. : Maybe if more turns up about William, it may show that he had a brother : Joseph whom he named his son after. : Ruth Selman's ancestors seem to be well documented. Not so for William. : His : father was probably Samuel Paxton of Emitsburg, Md. - maybe also the father : of Joseph the father of Mary.
