I have hit a BIG brick wall. I am trying to make a connection with the following family. If you have any connection to their children would you please help me determine if this John Paxton is mine. Do you know of any of their marriages, deaths or burial places, I would deeply appreciate you sharing. Thank you so much. Dear Fred, This is the first time I have ever responded to a posting, so bear with me , please. My grandmother was Maysie Nevada Paxton, born Feb. 1, 1883 in New Madrid, MO, she married there to Andrew Crawford Adams on May 12, 1912. Her brother was Amos Andrew Jackson Paxton, there were sisters (Viola and Cora). My grandmother's father was Amos Paxton (b. Dec 1851) and her mother was Ada Kerfoot. I have worked mostly on my other "lines", maybe this is the time to start with this one. Any thing you could tell me would be greatly appreciated, it is just too much of a "coincidence" about the Paxtons of our families being from New Madrid, MO. Thanks, Betty
Hi Willie, Must have had a computer glitch ..I was sure I sent our mutual ancestry. William (who marrie Sarah McDowell) was the son of William Paxton and Elizabeth Stuart. His grandfather was John Paxton, born in Ireland, married to Mary Blair. There is much conjecture about the name of John's father, though no proof. The info in tthe Paxton book piblished in 1903 is definitely erronous..I have done research in both England and Scotland and there is no supporting data that a James Paxton was involved in the regicide of Charles II. The family did come from Ireland to Pa. and migrated down the great wagon road to the valley of Va. I have recently seen a reference to the Paxtons of Marsh Creek, Pa. where John came from, being in Gen.Braddocks army during the Frech & Indian war and will attempt to pursue that. I don't know why the older brother bought an establishment in N.C. but William went with him. He became a capt. during the revolution and married Gen. McDowell's daughter. If you want more info, write me. Good hunting. Jeanne Willie R Beaty wrote: > Jeanne, > > Yes, I did get the information you sent me on William Paxton and Sarah > Grace McDowell. Hello to all, I am a new subscriber to this list. Does anyone have this lady in their data? Could there have been an early Parsons marriage? A Quaker researcher has found a record for a James Peirce marriage, 1819, in Marion County, Ohio. Her tombstone in Miami County reads: Margaret Parsons Peirce (1801 - 1878) wife of James M. Peirce. She was my ggggrandmother. Thank you for any clues you might be able to suggest. Anne in Fla.
Jeanne, Yes, I did get the information you sent me on William Paxton and Sarah Grace McDowell. However, did not have the part about his father William from VA. Do you have any ancestors or origens behind William of VA? I have heard that the Paxtons came from Scotland, and know a person who has visited a town in Paxton England where there are 30 or so Paxtons buried in a church cemetery. But, of course, I don't have a lineage tracing my Paxtons back that far. Any help would be appreciated. Wanda, I am researching the Charles McDowell Paxton line for my wife. We recently made a trip to NC and talked with some people, but didn't get any significantly different information. I am also researching Pharr, Sharpe, Stiles, Hembree. Have you heard any more about the book that Frank Paxton was to publish? I am interested in finding out more about the ancestors of Charles McDowell Paxton, and where they came from - and how they arrived in NC. Hope your computer troubles are over. Thomas A. PAXTON was enumerated in New Madrid Co., MO 1880. Some of Thomas' children were William b IL 1866, Isaac b MO 1868 and Ida May b MO 1875. These folks were Native People. Would like to correspond with anyone researching this line or any other Native American PAXTON from MO or AR. I have no information on Caucasian PAXTON folks. I would like to hear from any descendants of James Love Paxton,( born in Audrain County, Missouri in 1835), and Penelope Fike. The McCartney connection to my Paxton's is through Margaret Ann Pettis , who married Loren Paxton. Margaret's grandmother was Sarah Jane McCartney. She was Born at Ohio, in 1831, and married to Andrew Pettis. Their son George Eliza Pettis married to Iva Dunn were Margaret's parents. I have no other information on Sarah. Please help, I''m looking for any information anyone may have on the Paxton line that migrated from Potsdam, New York, Lawrence County. All I know is that great grandfather was born there & migrated west to the South Dakota area. His father's name was Henry, that's all I know about him. No one in my immediate family line seems to know anything about the family tree. Thank you in advance for your help. G.S. Paxton
Hi, Gary, I am also a descendant of Aaron Paxton of Adams and Cumberland Counties. He was my gr-gr-gr-grandfather. So far, I have not been able to discover much about his family of origin but he was definitely in Menallen Twp in 1850 with wife, Hannah Group, and children. We have another cousin, Craig Paxton, who lives in Adams County and is attempting to locate information on Aaron's parents and the family in general in that area. Aaron Paxton was the father of Sarah E. Paxton who married George W. Miller of Menallen Twp. Sarah and George are the parents of Flora B. Miller, my paternal great-grandmother. Do you know what regiment Aaron served in? He is buried at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Adams County. So far, we have not made the connection to the Marsh Creek Paxtons but he was most likely one of that family. Welcome to the group and will be glad to share any information I have on his descendants through Flora.
