    3. I am redirecting this post from Mary....Mary....if you receive this, please let me know as I am unable to send any e-mail to your address and the Rootsweb system also doesn't recognize your address as being subscribed. I have tried "[email protected]" as well as replying to the address as you have it. Thanks, Wanda ______________ All- To introduce myself to this mailing list, I am and have been stuck for quite some time on my gg-grandfather, William Charles Paxton. We have a family bible that was started with his marriage to my gg-grandmother, Mary Eliza Gager on December 5, 1848. This bible has a number of inaccuracies, and his name is written as both William Charles and Charles William. His birthday is recorded as March 16, 1792 and date of death is July 4, 1878, but we have been unable to find any record of either event. On one census, he is reported to be a native of Pennsylvania and another census reports he is a native of Louisiana. Family members believed that he spent his declining years at Sailor's Snug Harbor situated on Staten Island, New York, but they responded in the late 1950's that they had no record of him. The information that we received from the State of New Jersey Returns of Marriages indicates that his parents were Peter and Catherine Paxton, but we have not found a record of a Peter Paxton living at that time. He also indicates that he is a widow at the time of this marriage, so there may be other children of his first marriage. Family stories report that he may have run away from home and taken to the sea when he was about 14. We have found a number of records beginning in April of 1836 relating to his varied involvement in a number of ship registrations in New Orleans. When asked about his family by his children, he is reported to have responded that he was from a "good family in Western Pennsylvania" and would say nothing further about his family. Pictures of Captain Paxton indicate reveal strong American Indian facial features. If anyone has found any information that might help us track down any further information on Captain William Charles Paxton, we would greatly appreciate it! Other names I am researching include Enright, Gager, Horan, Ludwick, Mattingly and Spaulding. I am really enjoying all the information that is now on the Internet, I haven't done any research in almost 12 years and am amazed how much information can be found without entering the door of a library or other public building! 2. Enjoyed your website, Chrisanna. I thought it interesting that my husband's Paxton family also has a McCown connection. His aunt, Marie Paxton, b. 1908 in Kansas, married Orvelle McCown. Don't have a date or place, but it was probably around 1930 in either Kansas or Nebraska. This Paxton line is supposedly from New Jersey, but I haven't been able to trace them there. Regards, Janet Paxton

The John Paxton who came from Ireland was my ancestor and he was married to Elizabeth Stuart.. The John who married a Childress must have been the next generation. If I can be of help, let me know. 3. Betty, the PAXTON families of New Madrid, at least the ones I am tracking, were Native People. I am having a hard time proving which tribe/nation they descend from but one of these days I will get it done. For now: Thomas A. PAXTON born KY ca 1829 married M.G. unknown. Some of Thomas' children were: William b IL 1866, Isaac b MO 1868 and Ida May b MO 1875. I will one of these days send you any further info that I have.
