    3. Miss Mollie Hetfield, Centermoreland, Wyoming County, PA.- Pocket Diary 1864. Presented to Mollie Hetfield by her brother George B Hetfield Friday January 1 1864 At home all day. It is very cold in deed. at night Marg Austin called and what must I do but go up to the corners with he as Pa ws going up in the sleigh we rode up with him called and saw "Coe" and then we visited and spent the evening at Mr Rogers had a good time. Saturday 2 Spent the day at Uncle Elijahs and with Phim Lain, at night we through we would take a sleigh ride, rode around the square called at Uncle Thompsons, they were all gone as we started on our journey, upset once, no bones broken. Sunday 8 Today it is very pleasant but rather cold. stayed at home all day did not go to meeting because it was so cold and slippery. It was a very lomesome day. Monday January 4 1864 Went to the river this morning intending to go to my school but there was so much ice in the river I could not cross. Went u to town with Pa had a very good sleighride on bare ground. Although in some places it was very slippery. Tuesday 5 It snowed nearly all day stopped snowing about 3 oclock it is rather cold yet. went to school today to Mr Lue Underwood saw most all of my old friends once again. I was very glad to see them. Wednesday 6 At home all day. It has been very pleasant but it rather cold. It is very good sleighing. I havce not done much of anything today. I hope another day will find me more useful employed. Thursday January 7 18864 It is very cloudy and looks some like snow. I do not feel very well today but I hope my sickness will not last long. Had an invitation to attend an "oyster" supper this evening but did not go. Friday 8 It is a pleasant day. Mother has gone to Uncle Davids, Mim has gone to help Mrs W. sow and I am here alone. This evening attended Mr Swartses donation there was a great many their, went to supper with L. B. and E.B. took me home had a very pleasant time. Satruday 9 Did not get up very early this morning when I did get up had to get breakfast all alone had an awful time. In the afternoon came over the river got a duck in the river when I got to Mr Dewitts I was almost frozen. Sunday January 10 1864 It is very pleasant day but rather cold. this morning the river is shut up, a good thing I camer over yeasterday. Spent the day at mr Dewiutts, treatedf well on cider, nuts and apples. At night went to my home. Mr Dephews, spent the evening, very pleasantly reading, leadgers. Monday 11 Today it is very pleasant but is cold yet. I am teaching 21 scholars today; at night went to my boarding place Mr Charricks Dewitts a very good place to board. Tuseday 12 Today it is very pleasant, and is somewhat warmer than it has been. Teaching 23 scholars today. Pekp one afte4r school for not getting his spelling lesson. Wednesday January 13 1864 It is rather warmer today than it has been it was very cloudy this morning but cleared off about noon and is very pleasant teaching 20 scholars today at night retired to my boarding place Mr Dewitts. Thursday 14 today is a very pleasant day. Received a letter from George today stating some good news. Mr Ellsworth has a donation tonight how well I would like to go but I suppose I will have to stay at home do not feel very well. Friday 15 It is very cludy and stormy today. It tried to snow this morning but did not amount to much. Teaching 20 scholars today. Kept one of myu puples after school as usual. Satruday 16 1864 It is very pleasant day and very warm for the time of year. Teaching school as I have been doing the days previous 15 scholars today rather lomesome. Sunday 17 It is rather colder than it was yesterday. I am at Mr Depews today it is an awful lomesome day. Rachedl and I called on bill Swarts this evening. Monday 18 It is very dark and rainy day rained all day long almost as hard as it could pour down. Teaching only 154 scholars today I suppose they staid out on account of ---. Tuesday January 19 1864 It is a very cloudy day. rained some some this morning. the sleighing is all gone. it is to bad I think. boarding to Mr D.Daileys this week. Wednesday 20 It is cleared off very nice out but is very cold. and is awful icy. Mr Hunters funeral was today the congregation passed the school hourse at noon going to the burrying grounds. Thursday 21 It is very pleasant but rather cold, and is awful icy. Mr J. W, Scofield has a donation this evening at Newton -------. Friday January 22, 1864 It is rather cloudy today and looks like snow. I wish it would snow. Teaching 21 scholars today. I do not know of any thing more to write. So will stop. Saturday 23 It is very pleasant day and is qyute warm. Teachig 18 scholars today. Afterschool Lyduia Fitch and I went over to Lewsi Trangers spent the evening very pleasanterly. Has our fortunes told. Sunday 24 It is cloudy today rained a little this morning. Stayed to Mr Trangers all day at night went to meeting Mr Compton preached had a pleasant time going home through the mud---. Monday January 25 1864 It is very pleasant over head but under foot it is very turbid indeed. The snow is all gone only in some places there is a little ice. Do not feel well after my tramp through the mud---. Tuesday 26 It is just a smudy as it can be it is very cloudy and looks like rain. Mrs Kate Cresky was to visit my school today. Boarding to Mr Hunters this week. Wednesday 27 It is very pleasant day and very warm for the time of year there was meeting at my school house this evening but I did not attend. Thursday January 1864 It is a very pleasant day and quite warm and rather turbid. Attended Mr Cumptons donation this evening had a very tood time amont strangers. Went with Mr and Mrs Hunter. Kate Cresky and I were together nearly all the evening. Friday 29 It is very cloudy day and looks like rain, and is very muddy teaching 18 scholars. after school Albert took me to the river I expected to go the rest of they on foot but when I got there Pa was there waiting for me. I was glad. Saturday 30 At home today and am very glad of it. very glad to see my folkes again. In the foornoon done my washing in the afternoon helped Ma. make her new dress in the evening read papers and went to bed at an early hours. Sunday January 31 1864 Dear me the mud is almost knee deep at home home part the day but had to start for the river in afternoon awfully hated to go but did not say anything. When I left home Mag Austin was there. Bid all the folkes good by and left. To be continues .
