    3. Continued Friday, July 1 1864 Cloudy and rainy teaching 18 scholars, S.C. Poole visited my school this forenoon, After School Abb came along and too me home. Saturday, July 2 1864 Awful hated to get up this morning, but could not take a minutes peace after Min got up, worked pretty good for me today at weaving, Min and Ma went to Mr Winter's left me here all alone. Sunday 3 Being as it is Sunday. I attended Sunday School but there was no meeting; so came home and went to bed. After dinner Deb and Sal Houser, Mag Austin came over, went a piece with Mag. called on Lanay had a bully time. Monday 4 contented myself by staying at home, and letting the old folks go, until evening Coe came down wanted me to go up. Tuesday, July 5 1964 Disliked to get up this morning very much but happened to, the first one, got home last night or rather this morning at 2 o'clock. got very much scared to, before I got to bed. I went in the bedroom and someone was there to bed. on inquiring, found George had come home. I was very, very glad to see him. Wednesday 6 Every good and every perfect gift cometh from above. Teaching this day 21 scholars, Coe Pool at school this afternoon after school was out. Hat Perrin and Cal Jacques came over, Coe went home with me stayed all night - but did not retire very early. Thursday 7 Feel rather sleepy to day the consequence of setting up last night on my way to school Dr Thomson gave me a letter it was from Shim Lane, enclosed was her photograph; Coe called after school was out. Friday, July 8, 18864 Good! Coe has gone back to Binghamton, I am not glad no can I say that I am sorry. I do not expect to see him again in 8 weeks then I suppose he is coming home to stay. I expected he will be a very refined gent when he gets back. Dont you? Saturday 9 Home all day long Aran Race called did not stay very long. Went a berrieing long towards night, did not get many. received a letter from G.W. Thompson and also one from Olive Thompson glad to hear. Sunday 10 It is a very pleasant day and very warm. Attended meeting & Sunday School, after meeting went home with Mag Austin, Had a very good got fastened in the barn. Monday, July 11 1964 Join heart and hand as happy band. This morning I was so provoked I did not know hardly what to do, got to school felt mad as ever, wanted to take a good time, and squall but did not middling warm day M M H. Tuesday 12 Keep good company and be one of that number, Teaching 20 scholars today had a very pleasant shower last evening rained very hard; after school went to my boarding place, Frank and Cal Jaques was there had plenty of cherries to eat went a peace with them Wednesday 13 Left the school house at pretty good season tonight, let school out at about 4 o'clock rather earlier than common, went to Mr Browns milked two cows went to bed at 9 o'clock. Slept very sound, Mary Thursday, July 14 1864 Mercy how very warm it is. Teaching 22 scholars after school went to my boarding place, Mr Browns. helped them milk and finish my linen stocking, went to bed at an early hour. Friday 15 Not quite as warm as it was yesterday. Teaching 22 scholars like it very well after school went to my fathers house glad to get there and take off my old shoes, they had blistered my feet, ridiculous. Saturday 16 Oh! horrible warm; started for Lehman this morning Melinda, Mary and Isaac Reeve, Hetty Brown, George and L. Got as far as Uncle Elijahs Lo! and behold Aunt Maria was there; so we went to Carverton, had a good time. Sunday, July 17 1964 Pride cost us more than hunger thirst or cold. Went to Sunday School this morning did not stay to meeting After Sunday School was out went home, Ma was gone over to Uncle Elijahs. Min and I stayed all alone. Wrote a letter to Mary Neal today. Monday 18 Quite pleasant but is most awful warm teaching 22 scholars this day. Went home after school on my way home picked about two quarts of berries, got home. Ann Race was there a visiting. Thursday 19 Rather cooler today than it was yesterday, On my way to school this morning picked some berries and took them to Mrs Bells saw her baby for the first time but did not kiss it no make a wish. Wednesday, July 20 188864 Speak gently to the young, for they will have enough to bear; pass through this life as best they may, 'tis full of anxious cares. Speak gently to the aged one Grieve not the careworn heart. the sands of life are nearly run let such in place depart. Thursday 21 Speak gently, kindly to the poor let no harsh word be heard. They have enough they must endure. Without an unkind word, speak gently; 'tis a little thing dropped in the hearts deep well. The good, the joy which it may bring Eternity shall tell. Friday 22 Today find me still in the school room with 21 scholars Jane Hetfield visited my school yesterday we stopped to the office. I got a letter from Greenpoint saw George Thompson he is home on a furlough. Saturday,July 23 1864 Usually have to stay at home if I do promise to go anywhere intended to go a while burring but got slipped upon it my brother George was to contrary to go to the corners last night so I had to stay at home to day. Received a letter from S.C. Pool. Sunday 24 Attended Mrs Woodbere Child funeral. went to the burying ground, about going berrieing feel awful provoked yet. Attended sunday school and Mr Holmes meeting this forenoon. Sharon Rhodes came home with George from meeting, stayed at home this afternoon and read novels, Ann and Riley called also Jerome Houser came over. Monday 25 Very rainy day but rain is something that we were all very much in need of is quite cold for the time of year at least I think so, after school went to Mrs Rersh's, called to Mr Winters this evening. Tuesday, 26 July 1864 Well it is cloudy and cold yet very cold. Teaching 26 scholars this day. Kept J Murey Pool after school to get his lesson after dismissing him went to my boarding place went to bed at an early hour. Wednesday 27 Hers wept in view of the future middling cold this morning, but cleared off about noon and is very warm indeed. Teaching 29 scholars today. this evening listened to Mr Tripp play on his violin. Thursday 28 yet it continues very dry for all we had a little rain on Monday last after school went to Mrs. Bushes, called on Mrs Tery this evening then went back to my boarding place went to bed at an early hour. Friday, July 29 18864 Zones are divisions of the earths surface formed by the tropic and polar circles. Well I suppose one week from today will finish my summer labour, I will be glad of it stopped to the Grocery tonight and got some braid to braid my garabaldah. Saturday 30 Melinda Reeve, Louisa Rhodes, George Thompson, George H-----d and I started for Lehamn at 10 o'clock, made a short call at Dallas, arrived at Lanes at 1/2 past 2, took dinner, then thought - we would go to the Lake. Chim with us we were soon on the way. Sunday 31 Arrived there safe took a ride on the lake in the steamer, also took tea at Mr Playtons got back to Lanes at 11 o'clock had a good time. Got up this morning awful early took breakfast at 9 o'clock. To be continued
