    3. Dated 1921 Wyoming County newspaper name unknown Records Broken at Fifth Track Meet at Meshoppen. Interesting Events Staged in Annual Contest of Wyoming County Athletic Association. The fifth annual annual track meet of the Wyoming County Athletic Association was held at Meshoppen Park on Saturday and was one of the most interesting events the association has ever held. The day was ideal and the contestants in prime condition, thus making the event a great success. The following high schools were represented in the meet: Beaumont, Falls vocational, Laceyville, Nicholson, Tunkhannock and Meshoppen.. The Plans for the day were in the hands of Harry Carter as manager and Dr. T. Bright as assistant. Dr. W. B. Tukksbury of Tunkhannock, officiated as starter and Prof. C.A. Boston as clerk of the course. Meshoppen carried off the honours of the day by winning the boy's cup and will hold the cup for the coming year. The same school also won the relay cup and the cup for the highest individual score went to a Meshoppen boy, Wolff Vosburg. Beaumont again captured the girls cup and will retain it for another year. Boys Events The prizes in these events were as follows: 100 yard dash-First, Wolff Vosburg, Meshoppen Second Raymond McGavin, Meshoppen. third Leroy Vosburg Meshoppen. time, 10 3-5 seconds. 110-yard hurdles - First Wolff Vosburg. Meshoppen; second Stuart Herrick, Tunkhannock, third Raymond McGaven Meshoppen. time 15 3-6 seconds. 220-yard dash-First Wolff Vosburg, Meshoppen; second Leroy Vosburg, Meshoppen; third Raymond McGavin, Meshoppen, Time 27 seconds. Half Mile Run-First Kenneth Price, Meshoppen; second Russell Ace, Tunkhannock; third, Tracy Steel, Tunkhannock, time 2 minutes 17 2-5 seconds. Relay-First,Meshoppen - team, McGavin, L.Vosburg, Price, W. Vesburg; second Tunkhannock, third Laceyville. time 2 minutes 21 seconds. Shot Put-First, Cecil Garey, Meshoppen; second Carlton Pedrick, Nicholson; third George Carey, Falls Vocational, Distance 26 feet 6 in. High Jump-First, Ray Colvin, Nicholson; second Woilff Vosburg,Meshoppen; 3rd Stuart Herrick, Tunkhannock. Height 5 feet 2 in. Broad Jump- first, Ray Colvin, Nicholson; second, Cecil Carey, Meshoppen; third Wolf Vosburg, Meshoppen, Distance 18 feet, 11 inches. The total of boys events were as follows: Meshoppen, 46, Nicholson 13; Tunkhannock 11; Laceyville 1; Falls Vocational 1. Girls Events: The results of the girls events were as follows: 30 Yard dash - Elna Hefferan, Tunkhannock; 2nd Margaret Love, Meshoppne; 3rd Grace Agnew, Meshoppen, Time, 7 2-5 sec. 100 yard dash-Elna Hefferan, Tunkhannock, 2nd Grace Robbins, Beaumont, 3rd. Grace Agnew, Meshoppen, Time, 12 3-5 sec. 60 yard Hurdles-1st Grace Robinson, Beaumont; 2nd Ethel Weaver, Beaumont; 3rd. Elna Hefferan, Tunkhannock, Time 10 sec. High Jump-1st Ethel Weaver, Beaumont; 2nd Grace Robbins, Beaumont; 3rd Helen McKown, Tunkhannock, Height 4 ft. Broad Jump-st. Ruth Lane, Tunkhannock, 2nd Ethel Weaver, Beaumont; 3rd Elna Hefferan, Tunkhannock, Distance 12 ft. 2 in. the totals for girls events were as follows; Beaumont, 22, Tunkhannock 18, Meshoppen 5. the follwing records of the Association were broken at this year's meet: Price of Meshoppen, broke the half mile record and Colvin of Nicholson, broke both the jumping records. The prizes awarded at this year's meet amounted to nearly $150 in value and the Association wishes to thank those business men who so generously contributed towards making the meet the success that it was.
