Sherry, Thanks for your response. I guess after 27 years of search, I better not be in a hurry!! We've eliminated another Wm. Harris (son of Charles and Martha Pierce Harris, and grandson of Elijah Harris of Kingston), as my grgrgr grandfather. He is found in the 1850 census in Scott twp., with a whole diff. family. The only other Wm. Harris of this Kingston line is the William Harris I mentioned in the email below. (He is son of Wm., Son of Elijah Harris of Kingston). He may have married Eunice Hannah?, and he supposedly died abt. 1847. No dates for his wife in my files. His father, Wm. Sr., d. April 30, 1865, and I have no date of death Miriam his wife. My William Harris b. abt. 1798 PA and wife Betsey b. 1894 CT had two children, Harriet and Charles, in 1821 and 1823, supposedly born in Kingston PA. But we find they are not in 1820 cnesus, and Wm. would be 21-22 yr. old. They must be living with another family in Kingston. Have checked the tax assessments at Luzerne County Courthouse, all I got was a stiff neck looking sideways at the microfilm! the only reader they have there is awful, cannot turn to read film left to right!!! unbelievable. The only Wm. Harris listed there is the one above, who m. Miriam. Then a single man, Wm. Harris, and I am realizing that probably is his son, Wm. Jr., who m. Eunice later on! frustrating.... ...no other evidence of another Harris line in Kingston limits in 1820, which included Forty Fort, Dorranceton, etc. ...not even a glimmer... Guess I need to give up the Kingston search, and look beyond it--but before I do, I would dearly love to find out where these Wm. Harris men are buried, to surely rule them out. Just in case one of them separated and remarried, or something like that!-- If you do ever get a chance to find Wm. Harris on a Wyoming County tombstone, I would VERY much like to know it. sorry to go on so long regards Holly Sherry wrote: >Holly, >Contact the Wyoming County Historical Society. I'm hoping to find Rebecca's parents and siblings. There is a ORRIN (ORSIN) Baldwin on the 1850 Census in Tunkhannock, and would be the right age to have been Rebeccas father......anyone, FRANKLINS?, or BALDWINS? Thanks, John

Unfortunately, Birth Certificates were not required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania until 1907 so with Ellen's birth prior to 1907 there is a great possibility that she wasn't issued a Birth Certificate. The Township Assessor was responsible to report Births and Deaths, but this was not always done because there was no law requiring that they do so. If you happen to know Ellen's parents religious affiliation, you might be able to find a record of her christening or baptism by checking the Mill City area church records from the church of their affiliation.

Thank you, Jack, for your reply. Just tried it; found William Harris' brother Charles in the Eaton Cemetery, no Wm. yet to be found. Perhaps his grave is unmarked, or perhaps he was buried somewhere else. regards Holly Jack Schoedinger wrote: >This is the best site for cemetery listings in Wyoming County, >Pennsylvania.
