Hi Bert, Thank you very much for your response to my plea for help. Here's the background on my "people": I am researching Sidney Townsend, b. 1829-1830 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of C. Townsend, b. abt 1787, place unknown, - death unknown and Mariah Sickler, b. 24 Jun 1803 in NY, township and county unknown - death unknown. Mariah Sickler is believed to have been the daughter of Jacob Sickler, Sr., b. 14 Oct 1773 in Duchess County, NY - d. 1830 in Wyoming County, PA and Hannah Rachel Chatfield, b. 03 Dec 1785 in Fishkill, Duchess County, NY - death unknown. Nothing is known (including the first name) about Sidney Townsend's father, "C." Townsend or his ancestry. Nothing is known about Sidney's wife Mary, including her maiden name. In later years, however, as a widow, she is known as Mary B. Townsend. The 1850 Census for Falls Township, Wyoming County, lists the C. Townsend family as: "C." as Self, Mary as Wife and the following children, all born in Pennsylvania, and their ages which I have converted to years of birth: Sidney 1829 or 1830 Jacob 1831 Delvan 1833 Miles 1835 Maria 1837 Hannah 1839 Charles 1841 Berry 1843 The Sidney Townsend family appears in the 1860 Census for Falls Township, Wyoming County. Sidney is Self and Mary is Wife. They have three children, all born in Pennsylvania: Alvah b. 1855 Firman b. 1858 Mariah b. Feb 1860 We believe her full name was Mariah Frances and that she used the name Frances for most of her life. By the 1870 Census, taken 12 Aug 1870, Sidney Townsend has disappeared and is suspected to have died between the 1860 and 1870 censuses. Mary Townsend is living in Nicholson, Wyoming County, with her three children, Mariah listed as Frances. However, the two boys, Alva and Firman Townsend are also shown in the 1870 census as living in Harford, Susquehanna County at what looks to be a school of some kind for boys and girls. By 1873, Mary Townsend and her three children have moved to Scranton. My "burning" questions are, initially: Who was the Mary that Sidney Townsend married? What is known about her and her ancestry? When and how did Sidney Townsend die? Who was "C." Townsend and what was his ancestry? Additionally, I would really like to know more about Sidney's mother, Mariah Sickler and her ancestry as far back as possible. So, Bert, even if my Sicklers and Townsends are not your Sicklers or even if you don't have time to look at all this "stuff", it's been helpful to me to write it all out again. Sue, This sounds like my Sickler line. Olive, Jacob, Sarah and Cynthia were children of George and Lucy White Sickler. George and Lucy had several other children, including George Warren Sickler who married Lydia Ann Covey and who were my great great grandparents (I inherited large, framed portraits of this pair). The Cynthia you mention was married first to Michael Fergerson, then to William P. Swartz. This bunch are all buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Falls Twp., Wyoming County, just across the Lackawanna County line. I have quite a bit of information on this line, some of which I received from other researchers, so not all of it is fully documented with reference sources. I've been working on verifying it and straightening out some discrepancies as I have time. I would be most interested in comparing notes. As far as the cemteries go, I can direct you to a few in the "Falls" area where Sicklers are buried at. Can you tell me who you would be looking for and/or what cemetery they are buried in???? Then I can better forward directions to you. Some of the cemeteries out that way maybe a bit tricky to find if one is not familiar with the area.... My Wyoming County Sicklers would be: Olive who married to Azor Ross (he was born in 1829).. Jacob W., who was married to Harriet S. Britton, (she was born 1830) Sarah, who married Gilbert Barnes Ross (he was born in 1828) AND Cynthia Sickler, but it escapes me at the moment who she married to. She may have also married to a Ferguson??? I know she was in the Falls area as well..... If you would have anything to share on any of these Sicklers, I surely would appreciate it. Hi Liz, The best source for Wyoming County cemetery information is at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~thstiger/ which is the "home page" and if you scroll down near the bottom you will find a search block. You can also go directly to the Cemetery Listings by going to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~thstiger/WYOCOCEM.htm. My wife and I were in Wyoming County this summer and enjoyed our visit there. Have a nice trip. Jack Schoedinger Vacaville CA j.schoedinger@netzero.net
