I believe what you are looking for is maiden name, Ellen FILAN, rather than Philand. Ellen Filan Smith born 1902 in Rush Twp, Susquehanna Co, PA was a sister to my late mother-in-law, Agnes Filan Repsher. If you have ancestors by the names of Ralph and Florence SMITH, and they had a daughter, Bonnie, in addition to a fairly large family, and they lived in Hackettstown, NJ (Schooley Mountain area), I've got some information on the ancestry of Ellen Filan Smith. Is anyone research the Steele Family- trying to find information of Balser/Balsor Steel/Steele that is buried in the Nicholson Cemetery.
I think it may be the same list, which shows Silas Benedict among "survivors". The date I mentioned, 1776, should have read 1778 of course. Bill
The History of Wyoming in a series of letters by Charles Miner. On page 238 he write about the Wyoming Mascara that was lead by Col Butler and the Indians against the Wyoming Valley settlers. After Butler with a large portion of the Indians with drew. the savages remaining now free from slight restrain the presence of their white allies imposed, gave themselves to the wildest disorder separating in parties of from five to ten, they scattered through the Valley,, marking their course as if in sheer wantonness, would either leave, or set fire to it, as whim or caprice seemed to give it expression. . From the farm of an aged man by the name of Weeks, in Wilkes-barre, originally from Fairfield county, seven persons had gone out to battle, (so imperious, so irresistible were demands for men, even to make up the three hundred.) Philip, Jonathan, and Bartholomew Weeks, his sons - Silas Benedict, who married a grand-daughter, Jabez Beers, and Josiah Carman, relatives, and Robert Bates, a border. Horrible slaughter! the whole seven lay dead on the field at night! Page 242 a list of settler killed: A. Benedict, Private No other references ot Benedict family.
I'm researching Silas Benedict, said to have died 3 July 1776 in the Battle of Wyoming. The internet listings of those participants in that battle, however, show him as a survivor, and also show someone named A. Benedict as one of the dead [Abraham?]. There are are other questions about Silas as well, such as his true mother's name and his actual date of birth [1729 vs 1745?] Bill Reque SF

Please help me with a brickwall I've encountered trying to find my great grandfather. Unfortunately, I have very little information but will give what I do have. PARSONS, Walter Truman, b. in PA 1871. I do not know the county. I especially want his date of birth and location in PA. His father was PARSONS, Truman Nathaniel, b. 29 May 1843 in Chatham, CT, m. Lavina Davis abt 1848 in MA. Thank you for any help you can give. I am at a loss as to how to obtain further information. Emily
Hi, I checked the www.gencircles.com web sight and found two researchers that are working the same branch of the Parsons tree. One is a Don Parsons (dparsonssr@aol.com) and the other is William Meier (williammeier@earthlink.net), however, it would appear that they had little or no more information than you have. The good thing is that Don does have 257 Parsons in his file. As for the location of Walter Truman Parsons in Pennsylvania, I checked the cemeteries in Wyoming County and an Earl Parson 1890-1965 and Ethel 1895-1968 buried in Orcutt Cemetery (originally named Clark Cemetery) at Noxen, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. Hope this tid-bit will help in some way Jack A. Schoedinger j.schoedinger.2@netzero.net
