The Newton Genealogy page and directory has been added. The Ransom directory is now better than before. Both have the names of the wives as well as the head of the family. I am not planning to add any more pages at this time. I will be continiously updating the Researcher's surname list. Please send me your surnames that you are looking for in the Ransom and Newton Township, Lackawanna Co., PA area. Before 1842, Newton was a part of Falls Twp., Luzerne County, PA. When Wyoming County was made a county from Luzerne County, it divided Falls Township into two sections. The part that stayed in Wyoming County is called Falls Township and the other part in Lackawanna County is called Newton. I hope you find this page helpful. >For information about the Wyoming Massacre, go to this site. There were >Coopers in the Wyoming Valley at this time. >http://www.rootsweb.com/~paluzern/massacre.htm > >-- >Muriel Caillau Muriel, Thank you ever so much for the web address regarding the Wyoming, Pa. Massacre. I found it to be an excellent source of new information and a source to correct previous information that I had misunderstood. Regarding my family connection to the Wyoming, Pa. area it was my GGGGGfather William Cooper and possibly his brother George Cooper (who is listed as a survivor of the Wyoming Massacre). Although I am still a little fuzzy on GGGGGfather William Cooper, I believe it was his son (also) William, b. ca.10 April 1771,who migrated from Pawling, Dutchess County, NY to Cayuta, Schuyler County, NY., where he died 3 July 1861. This William is buried in the Cayuta Cemetery with his wife Hannah (Narcork) along with some of his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandson Melvin, b. 20 April 1879, d. 17 Sept.1911; Melvin being my grandfather. I live about 8 miles from the Cayuta, NY cemetery and if I was to stand in that cemetery with my three year old greatgrandson, I could look at eight generations. Hi All, I'm new to the list and I'm researching Thomas and Jackson. I'm looking for WILLIAM THOMAS born abt. 1860 who married SARAH JACKSON. I was told that he was a peddler. They moved to Lackawanna county PA. Sarah and William had 6 children; Willard, Edmund, Martha, Gwen, Sophie(Sophia?), and Maude. I think Gwen was the oldest and Willard was the youngest. Willard was born 1898, Edmund 1893. Edmund became a dentist and is buried at the Factoryville cemetery in Lackawanna county PA. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks alot!! Wendy
Hello to the members of the Wyoming Valley Web Site, I have a family history document, written by Annie Lampman in 1924,that refers to what may be ancestors of mine escaping from the Wyomong Valley massacre in 1789 and going to Pauling (Pawling?), Dutchess County, New York. My ancestors are William Cooper, his wife Abigail Leanord and their son William. My questions regarding this are: 1. Based on the fact the Revolutionary War was over in 1783 and General Sullivan's march into central New York State was in 1779, was the Wyoming Valley massacre perhaps 1779 instead of 1789 ? 2. What geographic area did the Wyoming Valley encompass during the Revolutionary War era ? 3. Does this Cooper family, any Cooper or Leanord family of the 1700s, in Wyoming Valley, ring a bell with any subscribers. Thank you in advance for any information (or corrections) that can be provided. Harry Cooper [email protected] 187 Bull Hill Road Newfield, New York 14867

Phyllis, There are a number of Mock's listed in the phone book for Evans Falls, Noxen. A Charlotte Mock at Evans Falls, (570)-298-2169 may be able to help you. As for Root's, I knew a Ruth Root who lived at Beaumont and had two children - son Floyd and daughter Hilda. There is a Floyd Root listed for Noxen -(570)-639-1949 who may be Ruth's son. Ruth is deceased. I also knew a family of Mensch, Dennis and Doris who had two children, girls. They moved to Harding, PA in the early 70's and subsequently moved to Alaska in the early 80's. Dennis is deceased now - sometime around 1988 I believe it was after my first husband died. Dennis and Doris came from the Nescopeck, Mifflinville area. I don't know where Doris is at present. Last I heard she was still in Alaska. Mabel

Hi Diane, The address for the Dallas M E Church, now the Dallas United Methodist Church is 4 Parsonage Street, Dallas, PA 18612. The pastor is Rev. William D. Lewis. If you write to Pastor Lewis, he should be able to advise you about the church records. As to cemetery records, as far as I know, unless the person was buried by the pastor of the church at that time, there probably aren't any records as to the cemetery where they were buried . The best place for recording of the cemetery where they were buried would be the obituary. There is no cemetery for the Dallas M E Church. There are quite a few cemeteries in Dallas, however, many people, although living in Dallas, were buried in cemeteries in adjoining towns. The telephone number for Pastor Lewis is (717)-675-0122, oops, area code just changed to 570. Best of luck in your search and if I can be of any further help let me know. Mabel

An answer to someone who asked about Dymond Genealogical and Personal Record for Exeter, Monroe, and North Moreland Townships "John B. Dymond, justice of the peace and postmaster, was born 1820 and married in 1845, to mary Jane Whitlock. THey have 8 children living." page 250 Diamond Hollow ME Church "As early as 1800 the Methodist circuit rider found his way into Exeter. THe circuit which included this appointment extended over a large territory, and included Dallas, Lehman, Mehoopany, Plymouth, Truxville, Nanticoke, and Plains. Once a month was as often this preacher could be at this appointment. Joseph Whitlock, an old settler, was the first class leader and the meetings are held in his house. After the school-house was built ar Dymond Hollow services were held in it, but the Protestant methodists came then and the result was an amount of friction which led to the erection at last of an M.E. church in 1835. The present building was erected in 1870 under the direction of an building committee consisting of Andrew Montanye, Enoch Whitlock, and John Diamond. A Sunday-school is maintained here during the summer" Source: History of Luzerne, Lackawanna, and Wyoming Counties, 1880 I hope this helps you. Sincerely Sandra LaCoe -- [email protected]
