Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ScB.2ACE/1145.1 Message Board Post: I have been searching for adoption information for someone for several years. Like yours, it was a confidential adoption . I went to the place that handeled the adoption and was told that some birth mothers gave ficticious names. That really complicated the search. I had the supposed birth parents names that were given to the adoptees, but years of searching has proved futile. I now believe that ficticious names were in fact given. Paying handsome search fees in that case would probably be useless. Being as you know the place of adoption, I would start by using the rootsweb mailing list for that locale and post a message such as "Looking for Birth Parents & give your sex and birth date). You may get real lucky ,who knows? Also check out some of the adoption mailing lists on the internet. Good Luck!

    1. [PAWYOMIN-L] Jasper Billings b. 1837
    2. John Crossley
    3. My GG Grandfather is Jasper Billings, b. 24 Mar 1837 at White Haven, PA. I found him in the 1850 and 1860 census. He is missing in 1870. He marries in Salt Lake City in 1872 under the name Jackson Jones. How odd. Now there is a Jasper Billings in the 1870 census living in Wyoming County, PA in 1870 with a wife and 3 kids. If this is the same fellow, there should be some record of his disappearance, shouldn't there? Any help is appreciated, John Crossley Sacramento, California, USA jcrossley@mac.com http://homepage.mac.com/jcrossley Ask and I will send you a good Joke each day.

First Wyoming County was not created until the mid 1800. If I am not mistaken it was part of Luzerne County during the time period of your search. There are three cemeteries in what is now Wyoming County, one was the Carpenter Cemetery which would not interest you, the first qand earlist cemetery was Flat Top Cemetery and the most predominant, which is located on Reynolds St in Factoryville, is the Evergreen-Woodlawn Cemetery. As for listings of those located in this cemeteries, there is a good webpage at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~thstiger/WYOCOCEM.htm As for the Rice family, they did in fact live in this area and the Pennsylvania National Guard unit was the E.J.Rice, Post No. 211. Good luck in your search, Jack
