    1. [PAWYOMIN-L] Nicholson area Cemeteries
    2. S P
    3. Am taking a real longshot here: What I am looking for is cemeteries in the Nicholson area that were in use in the 1850's-1860's. I am looking for where a particular couple is buried and I know they are not in the Starkville Cemetery, nor the RC one nearby. I don't believe they are buried in Nicholson Cemetery either. I do not find them, nor any of their older (aged 50+) neighbors shown on the 1860 census, listed in transcriptions online for Wyoming County Cemeteries. They resided in Nicholson, and the husband passed away in 1859. The wife's date of death has yet to be confirmed, however information at the Courthouse tells me she was still alive in 1863. 1860 Surnames I've been checking for include: Pedrich, Coddington, ROSS, Casterline, Shafer, Stephens, etc... Also, would anyone have directions to the Stephens Cemetery? Thanks! Sue --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Faith Hill - Exclusive Performances, Videos, & more faith.yahoo.com

    2. Dennis Sheehan (married to Alice McGuire) was the son of Dennis Sheehan, Sr. and his wife, Julia Byrne Sheehan. I do not know the date of their immigration to the US, however, Dennis and Julia both came from County Cork. Dennis and Julia are buried in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Stowell, PA. My family descends from Dennis and Julia through their son James Sheehan. I do not have any information regarding Alice McGuire Sheehan. Also, I do not know Lee Sheehan. I do have some additional information re: the Sheehans if you're interested. Please email me directly. 2. Hi, Terry--- it was in 1975 or 1976. For a short period of time, I personally know that Pennsylvania had a more liberalized stance on this issue of limited privacy, as I was one of the beneficiaries. That's why I cautioned you that it may not be the same anymore. The law may now be changed. One had to be over a certain age, 18, or 21, for example, and know all this very private information: name of the hospital, date of birth, and know your birth name, which most adoptees don't yet know-- it was a real Catch-22. Happened that my adoptive father was a retired attorney when I sent for this paperwork. Dad had the file, gave it to me, so that's how I knew as much as I did. I found the document which showed the name change in that file. What I received from Harrisburg was a facsimile of the original, with all the original info-- mother's name, age, address, name of doctor, and time of birth. That's what I meant when I wrote that it was called an original long-form birth cert. Someone took the time to hand-copy all the data into a new form (green, with the seal of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania impressed into it.) So do check to make certain if this format is still available. Best, Theadora In a message dated 9/29/2002 2:19:20 PM, TCall2000@aol.com writes: << When did you write? Because if you are adopted (or a parent was adopted, like my dad in 1945), you will not get the original long form certificate with the right info on it. No - what you will get is a doctored certificate. My dad's cert came back with his ADOPTED mother as his mother and HER maiden name. Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, there was a representative from Delaware County, Stephen Freind, who was an anti-choice zealot. (That was his entire platform, all he talked about; he didn't even believe in birth control.) He even claimed that rape victims can't get pregnant because fear unleases this anti-spermicide (No, I am NOT kidding - this fanatic believed this. The statement got him defeated when he ran for re-election.) Anyway, this individual believed that if adoptees and other could get information, somehow it would increase the number of abortions...and he helped to tighten the rules on all documents, etc. I tried getting copies of my dad's Philadelphia adoption papers two years ago and was rebuffed. And my dad has been deceased since 1989. So, in Pennsylvania, you CANNOT get a birth certificate with the correct info on it if you are adopted. Just more fairytales and what Big Brother wants you to find out. Terry C NJ >>

    2. Hello--- don't know if you ever got the info you were hoping for, but I am an adult adoptee (now 62) who was able to use a very liberal law in PA at that time (26 years ago) but one had to know one's original birth name, then the date and place of birth. It almost seemed like a Catch-22, but I did have that info, and did find my family that way. All I had to do was to write to Harrisburg's Department of Vital Statistics (or whatever that gov't agency calls itself) and then send $3! They sent me a copy of my original long-form birth cert, which had my mother's name and approx age, and so on. Don't know if that was only a brief window of opportunity or not, but you might check into it, as you seem to have more info than most adoptees. Good Luck! 2. Hi Sue I believe I have some info on Henry Walter (born 9-10-1817). His mother's name was Catherine Cress/Kress born ( b. 1788 d. 3-4-1836) and father was Henry Walter (b 1778 d. 8-21-1858). If this sounds like the right family I do have the names of the siblings Brenda

    3. While visiting Fairview Cemetery yesterday I came across these graves. They were all next to one another: 1) Martha A, daughter of Henry H and Lucinda Walter, died April 16, 1862; age 11 years, 2 mos, 21 days. 2) broken stone, thinking this might be the grave of William Ross 3) Nancy Ross (died June 16, 1878), wife of William Ross 4) Thurzy R, wife of Henry H Walter & only dtr of Wm and Nancy Ross; died July 16, 184(8 or 9) I am very interested in finding out information on Thurzy Ross Walter, and her family. (Ross family is my direct line) Based on what I know about William Ross, Thurzy was probably only in her 20's at time of death. Her stone is starting to sink into the ground, so if there was any age information on it, it is now buried. There is only one Henry Walter shown on the 1840 census for Luzerne and he is in Falls Township, but there is also a large family shown. Which then makes me wonder if they had other relatives living with them, or if Henry's father was also a Henry Walter... In 1850 there is a Henry Walter in Newton (which is right next door to Falls) who is in his 60's and his wife shown only as H A who was 40. Lucinda shows up as Henry's wife on 1850 census in Falls and they lived immediately next door to William and Nancy. So naturally I now wonder if Henry (w. Lucinda) had been married prior to Thurzy, or if his father was the Henry to which Thurzy had been married to and if Thurzy had any children...Any date when Henry and Lucinda married???
