    3. I wondered if anyone knows the history of Pricedale community. I know there was a Sommer coal mine there, and company housing, company store, etc. How did it get its name? How long as it been in existence as a community? Thanks. Virginia Crilley

    3. In the 1952 Columbia-Lippincott Gazeteer of the World, Pricedale is listed as a village with a population of 2357 with the adjacent Sandfield, located in Westmoreland County, 13 miles south of McKeesport. Much of the town disappeared when I-70 was built. 3. According to a disk I have on Westmoreland County History by Boucher and Jordan, 1906, Pricedale was named for Hugh Price. He immigrated to Rostraver in 1873 from England. He was born July 14, 1859 and died Dec. 1905. There was a post office in Pricedale in 1902. There is also a Thomas Easton mentioned as the Superintendent of the Somers Mine. He is listed as a resident of Pricedale.
