If you are near a Family History Center in a LDS temple, you may rent film that will give you some help. Go to the site _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) , then <library>, then <library search>, then <place>, then type in only <Westmoreland>. A menu will appear with all the Westmorelands availaable. Chose <Pennsylvania Westmoreland>. You will see a long list of records available, unfortunately many of them in book form that you can't get. But go to <probate> and select one or more of those categories. You will see the WPA compilation of court records by alphabet. Yes, in alphabetical order. I have already rented the B and the M and the S film. The B film carried over into the first of the C's and I found Eli Campbell's will information. The M film was split into 2, I believe, and I rented both. I think the S film was only one. After you get the information, you can write to the courthouse with the exact numbers you need to get a copy. I did that in the beginning of my research some 10 years ago and I made note of everything in those surnames that concerned my families for the day when I hit the lottery and could order all the legal papers. I know there are other film but I haven't found them in the LDS catalog. I saw them when I went to Harrisburg some years ago and again, copied what I could of those pre-1900 film, marriages, deaths, etc. I have some of the marriages in my earlier families from those 3 film. Great-grandpap Sholey's marriage, Uncle Coon's death from gangrene, Uncle Sam's death from old age, John Brown's estate, Uncle Bill's minor children's guardianship. You may have luck finding a professional researcher in Harrisburg who would check the film at the State Archives for a fee, but you can also do some of the research yourself at an FHC. It's a 45 minute ride to and then back from my local FHC in Hampton, VA. One trip to order, who knows how many to read.
