    3. Sherry, in your research on Coal Miners in that area, have you run across the name of August Gruller? He was from the Jacobs Creek area and worked in coal mines but disappeared from the Fairhope/Fayette City area sometime after 1930. I am looking for what happened to him because he is my sister-in-law's father. Unfortunately, when his whereabouts continued to be unknown, my sister-in-law's mother had him declared deceased so she could remarry. He was born @1897 to Frank and Agnes Gruller and is last seen in the 1930 census living with his mother, Agnes, in Fayette City. Any help or mention of him that you come across would be very much appreciated as after the 1930 census, the trail grows cold. The most important thing she wants to know is where he is laid to rest and when. Thanks for all your help. 3. There are two sources of such information that you do not mention in your request. First, the online "Old Miner" has excellent lists of those killed in many mines. At the following link Ray lists several hundred miners killed in the 1907 explosion at Naomi (which is in Fayette County). http://patheoldminer.rootsweb.ancestry.com/faynaomi1.html Beyond that, the Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines issued yearly reports on coal mining in the State of PA. Starting about 1886 or so, and I have seen them into the 1920s, each report included a listing by name and type of accident all miners who had injuries or death. You could use this reference to get a totally complete listing. Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh has quite a few, if not all, of these reports (each is a huge book). The Penn State Coal Library in Uniontown, PA has several of the issues. And, the 1905 issue is available somewhere on line (thru the Univ of Pgh, I recall). Between these two sources you should have a complete listing. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sherry Shondelmyer" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2008 9:54 AM Subject: [PAWESTMO] Naomi Mine need old photos Hello, I'm doing research on coal miners my main interest is the Naomi Mine my Gr Grandfather & Grandfather worked in the Naomi Mine. 3. I slightly mispoke in my email a half hour ago. Only about 30 miners were killed in the 1907 explosion. The listing of several hundred people that the Old Miner has for Naomi includes many dates and accident reports for the mine, probably taken from the Bureau of Mines annuals. When you get to the page at the link I provided, look at the left edge of the screen and click on the Naomi History link. Quite a bit of additional information.
