When looking at tax records in Westmoreland Co., I found a Simon Long (carpenter with one cow) in North Huntingdon Township in 1829. In this same record are David Long, William Long, and Andrew Long listed and in the same area in 1830, 1831, 1832, 1833, and 1834. In 1834 it had the cow died. In 1835, all the other Longs are still there, but Simon is gone. I visited the Weber Memorial near Youngwood (South of Greensburg) and found Tobias Long as well as a Simon Long, but this Simon was born in 1822. My question is, at what age would a person be taxed? This Simon would have been 7 years old. My Simon Long was born in 1816 and would have been 13 or 14 years old. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Shirley Hunt Shirley
