I have an application to the DAR for a woman descended from Enoch Abraham of Georges Twp., Fayette Co. I'll send Dawne a copy as soon as I get a new ink cartridge. I'm surprised no one attempted to prove Colonial Dames membership because this ABRAHAM-WYNNE family was in colonial Philadelphia quite early, the Abrahams about 1700, the Wynnes before then. No one has attempted to prove Indian Wars membership either. Enoch Abraham was a young man when he guided a party across the mountains. His cousin (I believe) was killed by the Native Americans. He settled in Somerset Co. and then, prior to the Am. Revolution, he was in Westmoreland Co. and was a court martial man in the Revolution. So there are 3 memberships waiting for a descendant. Colonial Dames Indian War whatever. DAR. Once I make a copy, I'll stuff it in an envelope for the Chestnut Ridge society. Dear Shirley, You have brought up a subject that brings something else to mind. There are times that people find filled out application papers that were never followed through on to be passed at the National Headquarters. UNLESS you SEE the National Number assigned to the woman at the top of the paper & the signatures on it of the National Registrar Etc. then you may be looking at a paper that was never used for membership & also may be one that would not be accepted. I have run in to this over the years quite a few times. In order to belong to the Colonial Dames XVII Century the service must be before 1701 so this most likely is a very early family with service but may not have been realized by the people or they did not even know they could use it. Are you a member in both groups Shirley. I still belong to DAR but I don't belong to Colonial Dames any longer. I established 10 or 11 lines in Col. Dames. Wow, 1971!!! That sure was a long time ago. Woops! Now I'm telling my age. Ellen Ballas (ETHS-VP)
