    1. [PAWESTMO] Murder of Earl Shoup, 7 July 1922
    2. Latrobe Bulletin, sent by Nancy Moore Keir Friday, July 7, 1922 – Earl Shoup EARL SHOUP DIES FROM ASSASSIN’S BULLET; HIS MURDERER STILL ELUDES THE AUTHORITIES Earl M. Shoup, well know as a manager of athletic teams at Bradenville and who had a host of friends in this section, died at 2:30 this morning at the Latrobe hospital where he had been a patient for two days. Death followed peritionitis which resulted from a gunshot wound in the abdomen, inflicted by Angelo Ciare, an Italian shoemaker of Loyalhanna, Tuesday night. Mr. Shoup's condition seemingly improved steadily at first, after being brought to the hospital and hope had been held that the bullet had not reached a vital spot. Yesterday afternoon, however, his condition became much worse. Dr. Behan, a specialist of Pittsburgh was called and after an examination said that there was no chance for recovery. Mrs. Shoup became unconscious at midnight and did not regain consciousness up to the time of his death. Deputy Coroner Horner performed an autopsy today and found the bullet had entered Mr. Shoup’s abdomen on the left side, then taken a slanting course, and lodged either in the muscle of his back, or in his backbone. The bullet was not found. The deputy coroner, in filling out the death certificate, gave the cause of death as homicide. State police who have been working on the case since the time of the shooting, have no clues as to the whereabouts of Angelo Ciare, the man who did the shooting. Ciare was reported to have slept in a culver Tuesday night in Loyalhanna Crossroads, but the report has not been confirmed. The state troopers have run down dozens of reports and clues but none of them has led to anything definite. A wave of deep regret passed over the community, this morning at the news of Mr. Shoup's death, as he was widely known and had many friends. Earl M. Shoup, aged 35 years, 6 months and 24 days was born in Ligonier township, the son of Mr. & Mrs. W. B. Shoup. He spent many of his years in the vicinity of Snydertown. For years he was the manager of the famous Atlantic Club baseball and football teams of Bradenville, and was largely instrumental in bringing to these teams the success which they achieved. He formerly was postmaster at Bradenville, and for several years actively engaged in the ice business in Latrobe. Those who survive Mr. Shoup are his widow, Mrs. Lena Shoup, of Snydertown, his parents, Mrs. & Mr. W. B. Shoup of Snydertown, five children, Robert, Howard, William, Homer and Fay, all at home, five brothers, William of New Mexico, Louis, Levi, Harry and Lemon and a sister, Anna, all of Snydertown. Funeral services have not yet been arranged as to the day and the hour. They will be in charge of the Rev. L. J. Baker, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be made in Unity Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Does anyone know how this turned out? Was Angelo Ciare ever located and tried for murder?
