Hunsberger (Donna Hunsberger) Subject: Dad # 4 Donald Wayne Ohler Sr., 77, of Pittsburgh passed away on August 26, 2010 in the Commons At Squirrel Hill Nursing Home due to complication of diseases of the lungs. Don was born in South Connellsville, August 6, 1933, a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Dare Ohler. On August 12, 1950, he entered the United States Army and received basic training at Ft Knox and Ft Campbell, Kentucky. While in the Army he became a Paratrooper proudly serving with the 187th Airborne Regional Combat Team after graduation of the basic airborne course of the Infantry School at Ft Benning, Georgia. He deployed from Camp Stoneman, California to Japan and Korea. During his Far East service he was a medic with the 187th and completed 17 jumps. He was discharged August 13, 1953 after being promoted to Corporal. He received the Korean Service Medal with one Champaign Star and the United Nations Service Medal. He was in the Medical Co., 110th Infantry Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard from 1954 to 1956; he re-entered in 1962 and retired as a Master Sergeant in the late 1990’s with 38 1/2 years of total service. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the AMVETS. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the out-of-doors. He completed the 19 mile journey down on the Youghiogheny River in a rubber fishing raft from Ohiopyle to Connellsville. He was employed for 8 years in the Walworth Company in South Greensburg and 40 plus years in the Jones & Laughlin Steel Company in Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Dawn Elaine Ohler Kezic Brooks on February 24, 2007, granddaughter Suzanne Marie Ohler on May 8 1986: brothers, Fredrick, Edward, Virgil and Vernon Ohler, sisters: Freda Ohler, Gladys Grimm, Betty Murray and half sister Helen Thorne all of PA. He is survived by his second wife whom he married in December 24 1967; Johanna Blahut Ohler and son Kevin M. both of Pittsburgh. He was also survived by his first wife whom he married May 1, 1954 and divorced March 22, 1966; Donna Crosby Ohler Hunsberger of Mt Pleasant, and the following sons and daughters: Donald Ohler Jr. and wife Theresa of Anchorage, AL, Dale A Ohler Sr. and wife Stephanie of Anchorage, AL, David E Ohler also of Anchorage: Diane E Ohler and Fiancé Coney Coxwell of Del Valle, Texas and Danetta L Ohler and husband John Zielinsky of Easton, Pa; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; sisters; Thelma Grimm of Connellsville, Dorothy Casto of Greensburg, sister-in-law; Pat Ohler of McKeesport; half brother Fred Whetsel of Normalville; and numerous nieces and nephews. No obituary was published per his request or was a viewing or memorial service held. Thomas J. Gmiter Funeral Home, Inc. 2323 Carson St., Pittsburgh, was in charge of interment. Interment took place in the Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, 401 Curry Hollow Rd, Pleasant Hills on August 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM.
