Thank you all for the pointers/help/assistance! Since I get the digest version I don't see answers for about a day or so. So please don't think I'm not responding. Alissa Thanks for the suggestion about the Ancestry map check, I didn't know that they had maps. I did find a two quarries on the 1876 map that Ancestry had near J. Saddler in Grapeville. Don't know what kind the were but the fact that they were in the vicinity, backs up the census info. And it turns out that I have a 1867 map that shows a Mrs Saddler in the same location. Goes to show you should go back and check you existing sources. Rich Thanks for the pointers to the different ways areas that stone cutter/sculptor could be used. I've pretty much assumed that the Saddlers/Sadlers in Westmoreland & Beaver are all related. At least so far. The city directory that has John in it will definitely be looked into I didn't have that one! I'm not local to PA, actually on the other side of the country, but I have visited the area twice and did find that Sadlers crossing is just down the hill from where my father grew up. So my current theory is that it is related to the family and it probably did cross the railroad or stream/creek in there. If I remember correctly there is a old (abandoned?) industrial building on the other side of the tracks. James Thanks for forwarding my inquiry along to Bill. Very interesting that there may be other possible documentation of a Sadler stone cutter. You had a indirect reference to a book, do you have more info on it? J. Sadler
