    3. Don, Thanks for posting the link for the 1890-1891 Directory for Greensburg and Westmoreland County. I found many relatives listed. FYI, I could not create a link to individual pages. Clicking "Copy/Paste This Link to Cite This Page" didn't change the "url" it only added duplicates for "Search & Page List" and "Search Results & Help" (the blue and pink boxes). You said, " Each page includes a highlighted copy/paste link which you can use for easy online citation." I don't know what you mean. As noted above, I could not copy the page and there definitely was no "online citation"... but I'm not sure what you mean by that. 2. RE: Yaisen / Jaisen Thank you to Bella, Helen and Bob for your information. Are there Death Records or obituaries I could access? Or do you know of someone that would look them up? I have used Message Boards before, but this is my first time I have used Mailing Lists, my apologies for replying to the Digest mode. I do not see how to reply to specific postings -- am I missing something? Perhaps your larger libraries, if they don't have it, can get it on an inter-library loan. I have seen this book, and it is a great resource. Additionally there is a photography museum in Pittsburgh on the near Northside, on East Ohio Street. If you do some googling you might be able to find it. They might be of some help in determining the studio that you research. I knew some folks who went there on a field trip and they said it was a hidden gem, not too well known. 1. Re: [PAWESTMO] Greensburg Photographer
    2. Tom, see if you can get your hand on this book: "Directory of Pennsylvania Photographers" by Linda A Ries, 1999, 359 pages, published by Pennsylvania History & Museum Commission. In the meantime, has anyone heard of this photographer and the years that he worked (in Greensburg)? I searched using google and mocavo and saw nothing. Also searched ancestry.com census records for Greensburg and Westmoreland County and didn't find anything. 2. Jill, found the Jasien's for you in Mount Pleasant WestmoCo in 1930. You can find them mis-indexed as JSIENE and living next door is Rose & John also mis-indexed as SUSKE. Sophia is written plainly. However Sigmond is noted to be Ignat?. Andy is still living at home with parents. 3. Hi Sherry: You found me. Must be an old e-mail address. Much of my data is posted online at my web site www.fishergenes.com including the Fisher Family History article you reference. I can find no support for the statement: "which makes a very interesting statement (paraphrased from "A History of one of the Fisher Families by One of them") "Joseph and his young son, John, were killed by the Indians in the raid on Hannastown...His minor children were appointed guardians in Orphans Court." The complete Fisher family article is here w/ photos of the original: http://www.fishergenes.com/showsource.php?sourceID=SR18&tree=FFG There is no mention in it of Hannastown, nor of a Joseph. In fact, I know of no Josephs in my Fisher line until 1939. The John mentioned in the article died of a rattlesnake bite as a boy. I suspect someone has made a mistake and linked a separate story and line of Fishers to my line. Happy to discuss further. Stephen Fisher On Apr 7, 2011, at 7:15 AM, Sherry Shallenberger wrote: > I have joined this list, because I just I found a reference to Westmoreland County, PA Migration, which makes a very interesting statement (paraphrased from "A History of one of the Fisher Families by One of them") "Joseph and his young son, John, were killed by the Indians in the raid on Hannastown...His minor children were appointed guardians in Orphans Court... > > and also another link under "Migration to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania", regarding Fisher, Abel 1773 by Stephen Fisher, which says it is also paraphrased from the same book. Unfortunately, my e-mail to Stephen Fisher came back as undeliverable and most of the article is not listed on-line. > > I would love to find out where I can find more information on this book or more about this Fisher family. I am trying to find out how Col. John Cotton (born abt 1751 Marsh Creek, York, Pa, died 24 Apr 1830 Vernon Twp., Crawford Co., Pa, married 16 Feb 1786 in Washington, Pa to Margaret Stockton) ended up with the indenture of my gggg grandmother, Sarah (Sally) Fisher, born 1822. Col. Cotton leaves the indenture of Sally Fisher in his will to his daughter, Peggy Cotton. Peggy (Margaret Cotton - who never married) ends up raising Sally and in the 1870 and 1880 census records of Vernon Twp, is living with Sarah and her husband, David Williams. > > Some of the Cotton family information suggests Sally's parents were killed by Indians. In a DAR application, Col Cotton is said to have been sent as Capt against Moravian Indians, but this would have been way too early for Sally's parents. I believe somewhere I also read he served in the War of 1812 as well, but that also seems too early, as she wasn't born until 1822. Does anyone have any ideas, or know where I can find that book, orphans court records, info on Fisher children, etc...? I would be very grateful for any and all suggestions. > > Thank you in advance for your help, > Sherry Shallenberger > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PAWESTMO-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

I've seen & read this publication, "The Diary of Jacob Shoop". It was done as a masters thesis by a Freeport-area author named Gary Link. Mr. Link has produced 3 very nice historical novels based in the Pittsburgh area beginning 1845. The first is set during the Great Fire of Pittsburgh in 1845, it is called "The Burnt District", the 2nd is set in 1846, the 3rd in 1847. I get the order of the 2nd & 3rd mixed up but their titles are :"The Spectrum" and "The Throughway". All 3 are great and easy reads. The last one concerns the Underground Railroad & runaway slaves in Western PA. I believe Mr. Link used Jacob Shoop as a character in all 3 of his novels. Jacob Shoop was an entrepreneur, and began a family-owned clothing store which survived until very recently. The oldest continuously operating clothing store by one family in Western PA. the Diary is NOT indexed, although the Local History Dept, Community Library in Tarentum PA has self-produced an everyname index for it. many Freeport area residents are mentioned in it, circa-1845-ish.
