    3. Yes the names of the patentees are on the maps. Each township has a map with an index. Your best bet is to search the index of the warantee register for Westmoreland County (link below). The warrantee register will tell you who patented the land. You should look first to see if you can find their names as warrantees. If you don't find them, you will have to look at every page of the warrantee index under the patentee column. There are 169 pages but neatly handwritten. It's worth the work. http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/dam/rg/di/r17-88WarrantRegisters/Westmorelan dPages/r17-88WestmorelandPageInterface.htm If they only purchased their land by deed, then that is a whole different process. -----Original Message----- From: pawestmo-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pawestmo-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Deloris Girard Sent: Monday, January 23, 2012 3:24 PM To: pawestmo@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PAWESTMO] Westmoreland Map Does the maps shows names? 2. Hi ! Shirley, I see that there is a Joseph Crusan in - Loyalhanna Township - Survey in 1838, 10 acres Index to Landowners & Joiners in the Early land Survey Books, 1769 - 1905, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, by Shirley McQuillls & William Iscrupe, copyright 1983, Southwest Pennsylvania Genealogical Services. My records show that John Crusan was the husband of Mary Teville Irwin (my line). John Crusan b. Oct. 12, 1788 @ Loyalhanna Twp. Westmoreland, PA. A son John Jr. was b. 1815 - d. I am not sure if John & Joseph are related, as I have found almost nothing on John. I am wondering if the surname Duncan is connected to John & Mary Crusan as David, Rebecca & Samuel Duncan are listed living with Joseph Crusan in the below 1850 census. It is noted in 1850 that there was a James Duncan living in the same town of Derry as the Irwin's lived, although everything I have found says that the Crusan's lived mostly in Loylhanna. 2. Hello, If any of those interested in the maps that have been discussed.....if, perchance you see any surveying done by Henry Wise, the Silversmith and Clockmaker who lived in Greensburg until 1833, I would appreciate knowing.  I know he surveyed the land Johnstown, PA is on, as well as land in Somerset County, Pa for the Surveyor who assited in surveying and laying out Pittsburgh.  That was a Mr. Vickroy.  This is the same Henry Wise, who's clock is at the Museum of American Art in Greensburg.  He is my direct ancestor.  I am trying to learn more about his surveying activities.  He was born in 1763, died in Greensburg in 1833.  I am still in search of his parents and birth place.  He was living in Bedford, listed himself as a "Silversmith" at the time he did the surveying for Mr. Vickroy. Thank you, tullycross2@comcast.net

I am not sure there was a plat map for Westmoreland that early. I've seen the 1790 county map. CRUSAN was in Loyalhanna 1794. John and Isabella SIMMS were in Indiana Co., 1833ish when son Cyrus was born in Armstrong, Indiana Co. I don't know where John was born in 1805ish. I have both CRUSAN (daughtered out) and SIMMS in my MOORE data base. Shirley Maynard
