Greetings list, I currently have the LDS microfilms for Huntingdon County Marriage License Dockets 1897-1901 Film # 900601. I am in the process of transcribing the records that will eventually be posted on the Huntingdon County PAGenWeb site. Below is a list of the couples I have found so far where one or both are from Westmoreland. If you find a name of interest, please email me and I can email you a scan of the document or tell you what information it contains. This is a limited time offer. This is round 1, 1 couples listed Groom - Bride - Date of marriage if a township if not listed, they are not from Westmoreland Shannon, Matthew H. of New Florence – Fink, Mary E. – 12/29/1898 I could have missed some since I don't know the oddball townships I used this site http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/pa/county/ a guide. Hello List, I was wondering if someone would be able to help me find out how to get info from the Tribune Herald for 4-1-1879. I would like to see what info there might be in the newspaper for the death of a James Crawford, Unity Twp., d. 3-13-1879 about 90 y.o. I know you can order the film through inter-library loan. If that is the course I take, I need to know who to contact. Or, if someone has access to this microfilm at the library there, I would be willing to pay for a look-up and a copy of what is in the newspaper regarding this gentleman. If it only lists what I already know, it probably won't be needed. All I know is what I typed above. I would appreciate any help anyone could give me. Thanks very much in advance, Barb Crawford Hocking Co., OH

Does anyone have a source that might contain an obituary forJohn Newton Bucher of Westmoreland Co who died in 1933? I would also be interested in a biography. He wrote Old and New Westmoreland and other works and was also an attorney who practiced in Greensburg, I believe. I have not been able to come up with any of his personal information. There will be a Tarr reunion on Sunday June 26, 2005. All descendants of the Tarr family who founded Tarrs, PA, in the 1700's are invited. The reunion will be at the volunteer fire department in Tarrs. The volunteer fire department is in the East Huntington Municipal building in Tarrs. Directions: the main road through the small town of Tarrs is Route 31. Look for a C&C Lumber sign and turn there and the municipal building is on the right. If you are not familiar with this area, one of the most prominent places in Tarrs is the cemetery. If you left the cemetery, you would turn left and then go down the hill about two-tenths of a mile and over the railroad tracks and make a left turn at the sign. There will be a potluck lunch at noon and the reunion starts at 1PM. Tarrs was founded by John Baltzer Tarr and his wife Maria Catherina in the 1700's. They were from Germany and changed their name from Dürr for an unknown reason. John Baltzer Tarr was formerly known as Johannes Balthaser Dürr. Hope to see you at the reunion. John Tarr

Tom, The double date is the notation that is used for dates that fall between January 1 and March 25 in years prior to 1752 when England and the American colonies finally switched from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar. If you go to Family Tree Maker's help menu and search for "Julian", "Gregorian", or "Double Dates", you can get a more detailed explanation. Regards, Andy hummell@telerama.com "Tom Chapman" <SurfCityTom@socal.rr.com> wrote: > > Anbody out there familiar with Famiy Tree Maker? Hi, You can change the cutoff year for double dates by going to File, then Preferences, then Dates & Measures, then Double Dates, and finally Cutoff year. However, I strongly recommend you read the write up on double dates under the Help tab (look up double dates). The reason for the double date is due to a switch from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar-- and the timing of when different cultures made this switch. I was going to cut and paste the information but am unsure of the copyright laws around that even if I cite the source. Hope this helps, Sonia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Chapman" <SurfCityTom@socal.rr.com> To: <PAWESTMO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 17, 2005 12:56 AM Subject: software question > Anbody out there familiar with Famiy Tree Maker? Looks like you are hitting the Julian/Gregorian date boundary -- when the British finally shifted to the Gregorian calendar, not only the date shifted (eleven days, if I remember) but the beginning of the year became Jan 1st. FTM gives dates in the ambiguous range (1/1 - 3/31) both old style and new style years. Bob Warren Tom Chapman <SurfCityTom@socal.rr.com> wrote: Anbody out there familiar with Famiy Tree Maker?
