I checked with some newspapers and here is one response that I thought should be shared.. Barb Barbara, I talked to our Publisher and he said it would be fine to post them as long as you credit The Tribune-Democrat for obits that may have been from our newspaper. I’m not sure of other newspapers, and if that would be acceptable with them also. Thanks, Doug Gawel dgawel@tribdem.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Barbara Lorensen [mailto:lllorensen@socket.net] Sent: Wednesday, May 04, 2005 7:24 AM To: retail@tribdem.com Subject: obits Good morning, I have a question for you. Is it okay for me to post some old obits that I found in my mothers old scrapbook to some message boards? I have no idea what newspapers they are from so I'm checking with all the newspapers.. I posted a few then I received this message from someone: (As a note of caution, obits posted in the newspaper are copyrighted, and as such are subject to the approval of the publishing newspaper. In the past this approval was refused by the local papers and there was the possibility of a lawsuit against a poster. It was acceptable to post a one-liner for each giving the basic details and where it was published.) I really want to share these obits with others, Please mail me at lllorensen@socket.net Thank You Barb Lorensen
I was just told this: (As a note of caution, obits posted in the newspaper are copyrighted, and as such are subject to the approval of the publishing newspaper. In the past this approval was refused by the local papers and there was the possibility of a lawsuit against a poster. It was acceptable to post a one-liner for each giving the basic details and where it was published.) So as not to get into any trouble I will just post the names from now on and if anyone wants the whole obit they can contact me.. Sorry I was just trying to be helpful and share.. Barb

Virginia, I have a copy of the Atlas of Westmoreland Co., PA published by A Pomeroy in 1867. It is available through Thomas J. Metzgar RD #2 Box 159 Export, PA 15632. On page 59 is New Florence and St. Clair Twp. I found Bowen and Elliot Woolen Factory on Shannon's Run near the PA Rail Road. Perhaps there is an Elliot researcher who knows something about the business. JoAnn Cupp Grass Valley, CA
