How does one go about finding/getting information found in/on a Homepage? Like information found in the, "Homepage of the family of Knechtel-Knegtal-Knechtli--Name Index." Can one find the person who put the information together on the web page and e-correspond with them? There is some names contained in this "Family Genealogy Name Index" that I would like to cross reference and would like to see if a connection exist. Thanks Leslie
My ggg grandfather John Ludwig Bower was born Nov 1763 in PA (I think in Lancaster Co). I do not know who his first wife was. She died before Jan 1792/93 in Westmoreland Co. I would like to find out more about John and his first wife. They were Dunkers. My gg grandfather, Jacob was born in 1786 in Manheim Twsp., Lancaster Co. In about 1789 the family moved to Westmoreland Co. John remarried in Jul 1793 to Christianna Freece. Are there marriage records for the late 1700's birth records for the mid 1700's for Westmoreland Co.? Also death or burial records so I could find the name of John's first wife? It is believed that Bower was originally "Bauer" Barbara Bower
Terry, I can receive your messages. I don't know why it doesn't work both ways. I sent you my cell phone number. If you let me know how I can reach you, I will call whenever you are available. Thanks, Georgia
Charles Baird of Derry Township died approximately early July 1822. His will was written 18 June 1822 and was recorded 18 July 1822. In the will, he names daughters Esther, Hannah Jenny and Margaret, along with son Thomas. Can anyone tell me if this was the same Esther Baird who married George Long and then resided in Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, PA?

Are the hours for the Greensburg Courthouse still 8 to 4 and is that parking lot on the side street just down from the courthouse public? I remember if you get there early you can get a space. Dee in FL.
Any ideas about the maiden name of this Catherine? She and Solomon Shupe were married about 1852, and had 4 children -- Milton Solomon Shupe, abt 1852, x Adaline Miles Wesley Shupe, abt 1855 Mary M. Shupe, abt 1857, x George Geckel, James Albright John B. Shupe, 1861-1932, x Sarah Florence Hepler. Descendants of this John B. Shupe think his middle name was "Barley", which could by Byerly?? Could this be the maiden name of his mother Catherine? Solomon Shupe was a son of William Shupe (1799-1868) x Mary, of So. Hunt. Twp. William Shupe was s/o Michael Shupe/Shoup (1764-1810) & Maria Eva of East Huntingdon Twp.. Michael was one of several Shupe/Shoup brothers & sisters who came to Westmoreland Co. from Bucks Co. I have more on this. Janet
Does anyone know the parents of this Mary Shupe? She is buried in East Huntingdon Twp., where she lived. She died at 33, leaving 6 children and an infant. Any leads appreciated. Date of her death was 20 July 1841. Janet
Just wanted to say a little about our speaker at the Chestnut Ridge Historical Society last night. He is Robert Mendler, a holacaust survivor. I think that this was the best talk that we have ever heard. Dr. Mendler graciously gave this talk free of charge. He spent 6 years in 10 concentration camps and lost his entire family. Yet he went on to live a remarkable life and to give back to his adopted country. He gives these talks free of charge to schools and others who ask and if he is able. Here is a link to an article about this very special man. http://benedictine.stvincent.edu/seminary/newsevents/2002releases/holocaust.html Dawne
Hi everybody! I see that there is a post card for sale on E-Bay that is an actual picture of the Hempfield Military Band, Greensburg, PA. The seller says that it is from the 1904-1918 era. In case anybody out there thinks they might have a connection to the band, it is eBay item 6179755058 and could probably be found by putting in the search word Hempfield. Take care, Russ
I have Johan Heinrich Schuster who's son Garrett Schuster/Shuster came to Westmoreland Co. Pa. in the late 1700's. I do not know where to place this question but since Johan Schuster's son Garrett came to Westmoreland Co. I am asking if someone could direct me in the right area. I have been asking for information on the location of Birschdorf, Europa. It is on the head stone of my ancestor Johan Schuster. I do not know if this is the correct spelling or not. But since it has now surfaced at a third location I wonder if it is a actual city/village/hamlet. The third location on the web where it has just now surfaced this third time is, "Homepage of the family-Knechtel-Knegtel-Knechtli-name index." I typed into Googles, "Birschdorf" and it came up a number of times. Many were my past inquiries, but the above mentioned Homepage is new and I am not sure how to read the information. Any help or suggestions would be apprciated. Leslie A. Shuster
I just received an email from the NGS saying that postage is 2.00 media mail and 4.00 priority so it is a better deal than what the automatic billing on their web site says. I assume they would contact everyone with the revised billing for postage like they did me. Here is the link again http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/index.cfm Dawne
If you have the book entitled Pennsylvania-Tax Lists Westmoreland County Pa, 1786-1810 or an equivalent book, would you please tell me the first year John Smith (or Samuel or Jacob or Benjamin) is listed in the tax lists? Although John Smith is a very common name, I'd still like to know. Lee Anne Center
