Hello Joann- Several sources say that my Mary DAVIDSON, who married Robert CRAIGHEAD, and died in 1825, was the daughter of Colonel Hugh DAVIDSON. However, this must be in error because my Mary is not included in any lists of his children. He did have a daughter Mary, who was born in 1784 and married Thomas McDOWELL in 1807. My Mary's daughter Diana CRAIGHEAD was born in 1780. Perhaps Mary DAVIDSON CRAIGHEAD was the daughter of another Hugh DAVIDSON. Do you have any information about my Mary, the mother of early CRAIGHEADs in Elizabeth, Allegheny county? I ran across this web site and thought it might be of interest. It contains links to the free and pay services offered by the counties of PA. It does not include the Westmoreland E services link for marriage licenses, but contains a lot of helpful information. Here is the link. http://www.searchsystems.net/list.php?nid=206 Dawne

James Patton married Ruth Anna Riley in Columbian Co, OH in June 1833...but by 1854 (Nov 15), he had purchased 174 acres from J.N. Dick. I believe this is when they moved to PA, Franklin Township. The land today is on Pleasant Valley Road, and I believe that is outside of Murrysville. I have their Patton family Bible which I've posted, and now thought I'd try to find out more through Census. I can't locate them on Ancestry for any of these years, and I've tried Paton, Patton, Patten.... I have deeds, and marriage licenses, so I KNOW they were in Westmoreland County, so it is driving me nuts because I can't find them on Census records! James died Jan 10, 1879 but his wife lived until 1897 and stayed on the property because I have some leases to Coal Natural Gas and Turtle Creek Railroad. Hoped someone on this list might be researching some of these children! Virginia
Our Crosby reunion is being held at the Northmoreland Park on June 18, 2005. We descend from James and Sarah Crosby from York, Pa. Crosby families came to Somerset Co, Fayette Co and a lot to Westmoreland Co. Some moved out West and some down South. If interested, come to our reunion and find out who some of your relations are. Sorry, there was a typo in the dates I gave you. John Smith's will was written 13 Feb. 1849 and filed in court 11 June 1849. So please let me rephrase all of this. Is there an obituary index for newspapers published in 1849? I am looking for an obituary for my ggg-grandfather John Smith (wife Catharine Gooden Smith), whose will was filed in court 11 June 1849. The will was written 13 Feb. 1849. Witnesses were Isaac Hughes and Jacob Smel Sir/Smelser. (I am assuming that the obituary would have been before the 11 June 1849 date, but don't know. But surely the obituary would have been posted no later than 18 June 1849? Lee Anne

Is there an obituary index for newspapers published 1848-1849? I am looking for an obituary for my ggg-grandfather John Smith (wife Catharine Gooden Smith), whose will was filed in court 11 June 1849. The will was written 13 Feb. 1848. Witnesses were Isaac Hughes and Jacob Smel Sir/Smelser. (I am assuming that the obituary would have been before the 11 June 1849 date, but don't know. But surely the obituary would have been posted no later than 18 June 1849? Lee Anne
Beverly, A few years back I had a subscription to Ancestry.com, but don't remember the "Evening Times" being included. Perhaps they added it. I have not researched this branch of the family in a number of years and still have a few holes to fill. You are correct that Rose is William MARTIN's spouse - my mistake. Dawne, Thank you for posting this article to the list! In over a year of reading these postings, this is the first time I have seen mention of any of my family! I am connected to the MARTIN family and have considerable information on this family which I am eager to share with anyone who is interested. However, I have no record of William or James MARTIN among the 9 children of Patrick MARTIN and Ellen BURKE of Pekin, Maryland and would love to hear from anyone who may know of them. Are they sons of a different Patrick MARTIN? The Mr. & Mrs. John MARTIN mentioned in the article are John Aloysius MARTIN (oldest child of Patrick MARTIN and Ellen BURKE) and Mary MULLEN, sister of the bride. The maid of honor in the article, Miss Loretta MARTIN, is their daughter. My connection is with Margaret Loretto MARTIN, 5th child of Patrick MARTIN and Ellen BURKE. She married Thomas Francis O'CONNELL, a neighbor and son of John O'CONNELL and Johanna MURPHYof Mallow, Co. Cork, Ireland. Maggie and T. J. O'CONNELL lived in Chicago and coincidentally (to Michael CLUPP) later lived in Jeannette, Westmoreland County, PA where their daughter, Loretta O'CONNELL married James C. Murphy of Greensburg who worked for Westinghouse (as did Mr. Clupp). Small world! It's not a stretch to think they were aquatinted with each other since Maggie's brother, John A. MARTIN and Michael's CLUPP's wives (Mary & Rose MULLEN) were sisters. Dawne - Are you able to search the Evening Times for a marriage announcement for Margaret Loretto MARTIN and T.J. O'CONNELL? The date I have is June 12, 1888 in Barton, Maryland, most likely at St. Gabriel's. You seem to have access to the most amazing and varied sources and are very generous with them. I often read your postings. Thank you. What cemeteries would be in Bridgeport in 1912? Joanne
According to the Evening Times of Cumberland Md., Jan 14, 1907, Michael Clupp was installed as the W. secretary of Paradise Aerie, No. 1121, of Midland. It is noted that after the meeting, refreshments and cigars were served! Also on April 23, 1909 in the same paper it was noted that Mrs. John Martin visited her sister Mrs. Michael Clupp, in Midland, the day before. Hope you find this interesting! Dawne
