Warning- be sure to view the names via the image which the index picks out for you. I tried the name "Marmie". The index turned up names from Finland and Italy as the birth place of the individual listed. Smelling a rodent, I displayed the actual census image. God knows what the name was that Ancestry indexed, but it sure wasn't Marmie. As grandfather came over from France in 1778 as Pierre (Peter) MarmiƩ, I knew they couldn't be right. And as grandfather was too poor to own slaves and the family started out in Pennsylvania where slaves were illegal, I believe that the mulatto from Virginia wasn't from our branch either. I knew some of the names the index cited. Moral- Look at the image yourself. Dont trust the interpreters or the character recognition software. Best, Allen D. McCrady

On the back of Cliff's business card (Colonial Supply Co., Pittsburgh, PA) is written in ink "Eugene Haag, Sexton of St. Mary's Cemetary (sic) Latrobe, PA, Double A Section, AA28 #21". Does this mean anything to you regarding the Moore/Perts final resting place? Underneath, in pencil, is "Mary & Sarah, Amanda Moore Perts / Baby Madelyn buried Ligonier / Aaron Adams" Unquote Is there anyone who has access to this cemetery who could find death dates for these Perts? I have no idea who Aaron Adams might be. On the 1920 census, PA, Westmoreland Co., Derry Twp., ED 85, Cooperstown, image 16 of 17 on ancestry.com, Manda Perts is found with her two youngest sons, Orrie and Cliff and a granddaughter that I have only her name, Teresia Leland or Sebond, 8 years old.. Is there someone with better eyesight than mine who can make out that name? Since my search engine isn't working properly, I need some help with the address for St. Mary's cemetery in Latrobe? Another strange anomaly I found was a Frank Perts (not in 1920 index as Manda Perts also was not). Frank lived next door to Sophia Moore Laughner, Manda's aunt Sophie. With Perts such a rare find, I wonder if he could be related to Robert Paul Perts, Manda's husband? Shirley Maynard Hampton, VA

Recently someone asked about a bottle which was found with the name UNIVERSAL DAIRY, along with a Unity telephone number. This may be your answer. This was asked of two individuals who were born and lived in Universal. They are 77 and this is what they recall. The Unity xxx phone number fixes the date to the 1930s or 40s. There is only one dairy farm that it could be...........Andrenko's on Bergtown hill. Andrenko owned a big farm that bordered on Stotler Road and Universal Road, across from the Universal School. I have a statement from Clifford Perts that his family is buried in "the Perts plot in the Catholic Cemetery." They were born on the Ridge in Derry Twp., but moved to Pittsburgh later. I've not found a Perts burial in the online sites of the Catholic cemeteries in Westmoreland. Would anyone know of another Catholic cemetery where the PERTSs might be buried? Hello Listers I live in California, and I'm taking a roots trip to PA next month. My intention is to try to retrace the route my German ancestors took - first from Philadelphia area to Upper Tulpehocken about 1755- then from there to Westmoreland about 1772. Since they inhabited South Westmoreland and were connected to Ligonier - I'm guessing they arrived via Forbes Road, so Chambersburg to Ligonier is a pretty good bet. But I'm wondering about Strausstown to Chambersburg. Would they have more likely traveled a northern route through Harrisburg and down to Chambersburg - or would they have dropped down through Lancaster, York and Gettysburg to get to Forbes Road? Tom
Thank you everyone for responding to my question about the Irwin Pres. Church. Barbara
