Hi Billy, Are your Lowry's connected to Joseph Lowrey of Armstrong Co., Pa.? Notes from my family say Reynolds Laughlin and Elizabeth Carney, my 3rd ggrandparents and my brick wall, were married by Joseph Lowrey. At this time I'm not for sure what part of Armstrong Co. my ggggrandparents lived but did find some info that may indicated that Joseph Lowrey was in South Bend Township Armstrong Co., Pa. I hope to be in Westmoreland Co sometime in Aug. Would you be familiar with any of these names? Thank you, Lona Laughlin Boudreaux Houston, Tx lona@pdq.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Billy Walker" <walker.b@sbcglobal.net> To: <PAWESTMO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 27, 2005 10:37 PM Subject: [PAWESTMO-L] Nearing End of Lowry CD Project > This note is to everyone who has PREVIOUSLY requested copies of the > Lowry-family CD I have been preparing for the past year. This note is to everyone who has PREVIOUSLY requested copies of the Lowry-family CD I have been preparing for the past year. I am now finished with the writing of the project and will now begin producing the CD's. I expect to begin shipping them by the end of July 2005. Just a reminder: This is NOT a "general" Lowry CD. It is about one specific line of Lowry (that of Henry Giese Lowry) and descendants to the early 20th century. There are connections with JOHNSTON, ELDER, WEIMER, GIESE, and other families in the Somerset County & Westmoreland County PA areas, as well as references to numerous individuals who are not related to the family. About 450 pages in length with indexing and footnotes. No additional requests can be accepted at the present time. Sincerely, Billy B. Walker Jr.
Hi everybody! This weekend, my grandmother and I were looking through her/my grandfather's old Norwin High School yearbooks from 1936, 1937, 1938, and 1939 as well as a couple other that I have been given over the years from 1930 and 1942. As she identified people that she knew, I jotted down who they were. I was trying to think of a way to put some of the group pictures out on the web for others to identify so that we won't all wonder who was who someday, but in the meantime, if you or someone you know attended Norwin High School between 1936-1946 as well as 1930-1933, let me know. I can send you a copy of their photo if I have them identified. If not, I can send you photos that have the last names you are looking for. I could also send you group photos to see if you can identify your friends and relatives. Then we can put a list together. I am also looking for people that knew my grandfather Russell Lentz, grandmother Janet Simpson, my great-grandparents Laurence and Jean Simpson, my other great-grandparents Marshall and Mary Jane Lentz, father Larry Lentz, and mother Ruth Holder as well as other Lentz, Dahlstrom, Creighton, Barner, Watson, Hunter, Forsyth, Burtner, Loutsenhizer, Radford, Holder, Huey, McNaughton, Eyrolles, Woomer, Lemon, Hursh, Halin, Spory, Stough and Kline relatives. I look forward to hearing from you! My e-mail address is _RussDLentz@aol.com_ (mailto:RussDLentz@aol.com) . Take care, Russ Lentz

Triblive has an archives from 1995 to 2001. It has been down so I checked the Godfrey.org for the obituary. They have a newspaper archive. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (PA) - September 4, 1996 Deceased Name: WILMA J. ''MINNIE'' (BECKER) SHOLDER Age 92, on August 31, 1996 at Murray Manor, Murrysville; formerly of Turtle Creek and Churchill Boro, wife of the late George S. Sholder; beloved mother of George W. Sholder, beloved mother-in-law of Sally Sholder, both of Murrysville; sister of Thecla Brown of Eighty-Four, Catherine Murray of Virginia Beach and Henry Becker of Forest Hills. Friends received Tues. & Weds. 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME, INC., Cor. Shaw & Triboro Ave., Turtle Creek. Mass of Christian Burial, St. Coleman RC Church, Thurs. 10 am. SHOLDER, Wilma J. I looked for Wilma Sholder in the Post Gazette's archives, but didn't find anything. They archive from 1993 to present. It could have been only listed in the Tribune Review, as Laney suggested. The Trib is more popular in outlying regions than in the city proper. In case anyone is interested: The Post Gazette archive is part of NewsLibary's collection and will display partial info but requires a fee for the full record. Here is the link to the Post Gazette archives: http://www.newslibrary.com/sites/pg/ For detailed instructions on finding recent and archived obits from the Post Gazette: http://classified.post-gazette.com/obituaries/faq.asp#Searching Amy On Sun, 26 Jun 2005, laney wrote: > Kevin, > > Go to www.triblive.com > Then go to the obits, at the bottom of the obits page there is a link to > search there archives. > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Kevin Sholder" <KS100004@sbcglobal.net> > To: <PAWESTMO-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, June 26, 2005 12:24 AM > Subject: [PAWESTMO-L] New Subscriber / Obit Request - Sholder > > > > All, > > > > I'm new to this list as most of my family is centered around Lycoming > > County. According to a disk I have on Westmoreland County History by Boucher and Jordan, 1906, Pricedale was named for Hugh Price. He immigrated to Rostraver in 1873 from England. He was born July 14, 1859 and died Dec. 1905. There was a post office in Pricedale in 1902. There is also a Thomas Easton mentioned as the Superintendent of the Somers Mine. He is listed as a resident of Pricedale. All, I'm new to this list as most of my family is centered around Lycoming County. However I've run across some entries in the SSDI indicating the last residence of Murrysville, Westmoreland County. It would be very helpful if someone could do an obituary lookup for me for a Wilma Sholder who died on 31 August 1996. Thank you for your time, Kevin L. Sholder
I wondered if anyone knows the history of Pricedale community. I know there was a Sommer coal mine there, and company housing, company store, etc. How did it get its name? How long as it been in existence as a community? Thanks. Virginia Crilley
Hi, I called to inquire about the St. Mary's Cemetery and especially the Pert's lot. I was only able to obtain the phone number of a Unity Cemetery Association. They told me that the St. Mary's Cemetery is run by the Holy Family Church in Latrobe. I was given a phone number of 724-539-9751. I encouraged this inquirer to phone them for information on the Pert family or to write to me by e-mail with specific questions. I have family that is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery and my GG Grandfather was David Williams who donated the land for the Holy Family Church in Latrobe. I do not know very much about either, but have been to both the cemetery and the church. I do not think that the cemetery is on the web, but is a very well-kept cemetery. I hope that the person seeking information on the Pert family has success. Mary Ellen
In the 1952 Columbia-Lippincott Gazeteer of the World, Pricedale is listed as a village with a population of 2357 with the adjacent Sandfield, located in Westmoreland County, 13 miles south of McKeesport. Much of the town disappeared when I-70 was built.
