Thanks for the replies. I do have another question. On the link to the list of cemeteries there was not a Catholic Church listed in New Florence. I have a certificate of baptism for my mother from 1913. She was baptized at St. Mary's in New Florence. Is this church no longer in existence? Is there a cemetery for the church? I think there is a good possibility this is where my great grandfather ELIAS NELSON is buried. This is where his son WILLIAM W. NELSON and his family attended church. Thanks again for the replies, Carlene
I am trying to find exactly where my great grandfather ELIAS NELSON is buried. According to his obit (8/30/1906) "Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery at New Florence". What Catholic churches were in New Florence in 1906? Do any of the local veterans groups put flags on the veteran's graves on Memorial Day? Would anyone have a list of the veterans and where they are buried? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Carlene
Here is a link to sundry newspapers in the US. I have found a few whose Obit column is searchable. http://www.newspaperlinks.com/home.cfm W Kruper
Was wondering if someone can tell me if Westmoreland Co was part of the land claimed by VA and called Youghiogheny County? Many Thanks, Janet Currie
Yes. Take a look at the Wikipedia entry for more detail. Hello. Where would I begin to look for any possible deed or will for the Wymer/Weimer family? Thanks, Lisa
Hi Nancy, I have more news on Wilson. I new that that name was familiar and looked on my patent map and what do you know. There was a Samuel WISLON who patent 263 acres on 5-6-1795. It was located along rt 201 going North where rt 51 meets rt 201. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Meloy" <nvtm@earthlink.net> To: "Raymond D. Hi Marilyn Hesse, In 1778 Andrew ROBINSON patented a farm along what is now rt 136 lying in Rostraver Twp, Westmoreland Co and Elizabeth Twp, Allegheny Co., PA. They could be buried in either Salem Baptist Cemetery, Rostraver Twp or Round Hill Presbyteran Cemetery in Elizabeth Twp. Archibald N. and Thomas could be the sons of Andrew ROBINSON. I think you will have to go back to the 1790, 1800. 1810, 1820 census to follow the paper trail. Raymond D. Hello Priscilla, There is buried in the Gibsonton Cemetery, Rostraver Twp, Westmoreland Co, Pa a Sadie PAXTON b. 7-13-1860 d. 6-13-1889, 29 years old. E. F. PAXTON purchased lot 21 in 1894 for $75.00 when the cemetery was incorporated. Either Sadie PAXTON was the wife of E. F. PAXTON or his daughter. I have at this time no additonal information as to whom is buried on Lot 21. For the 1880 census go to www.familysearch.org. I believe the George G. you want, based on age, is the son of Jacob and Christiana Harr. They lived in Youngstown, siblings Wesley and William R. I am pretty sure that there is information on the Harrs at Chestnut Ridge Historical Society too. I can take a look next time I am over there. Also in Pleasant Unity I heard that there are Harrs buried in the cemetery that is on the curve (right hand side going towards the County Fairgrounds) up on the hill. I am not certain, but I believe that is the one they meant. I think every county has some cemetery that can relate to this story I live in Fayette Co. and have 2 cemeteries located in Fayette City that could use some TLC. I feel people today just don't care, and that is a shame I took my girl scout troop and planted flower for labor day at one cemetery. I wish these cemeteries could do what California cemetery did. to view article http://www.heraldstandard.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=15235698&BRD=2280&PAG=461&dept_id=480247&rfi=6
Are there any other ROBINSON researchers out there? I'm interested in the family of Thomas ROBINSON in Rostraver township because several of them were buried in Leger Cemetery along with my Archibald N. Robinson (1804-1884) and his daughter Martha Robinson MITCHELL (1848-1884) I've found this family in Rostraver township in the census records for 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880. In the earlier years (1850 and 1860) there were 3 women (sisters) living together - Nancy, Elizabeth, and Mary - next door to Thomas and his family (wife Achsah and children Alexander, Patterson, Oliver, James, Martha, Mary, Harriet). In 1870 they were in 3 adjacent households: Elizabeth, Alex and James were living together; Martha had married Henry Bear; and Pat had married (I suppose) Eliza and had 2 small children - Howard and Clara. In 1880, Alex, James, and Thomas were living with Martha and her husband Henry. Oliver(55) was married to Catherine(35) and had 3 sons - William, James, and John. I would like to know how my Archibald fits into this family and who his parents and siblings were. Was he an older brother of all these siblings? Where was their property in Rostraver township? Our family in Jefferson Co. have located 3 lost cemeteries of ours. We have restored them or just had the Military reinactment groups rededicate the civil war graves and set stones or we have completely restored and rededicated them. Marlene, Ohio
