Hello list! I have some land records for Peter Hill, dated 1784, which describe a tract called "Hillsborough" in Pitt Township, Westmoreland. It's on a branch of Turtle Creek, and adjoins the land of Alexander Atchison and John Penter. Later generations of this family lived around Murrysville. It's said that Peter Hill's plantation was about two miles From Export. Can anybody help me pinpoint this? Tom

Back on July 22, 1976 there was an article in the Tribune-Review about the cleaning up of the Somers Cemetery, but I also have a reference to it as Bash Cemetery. Hello List! I'm trying to locate a copy of something that somebody described to me as "Hanna's Town petition of 1774." This may be the petition that the early settlers sent to get protection from Indian raids. I know I've seen a list of Westmoreland names that were on such a document, but I'm trying to find the text. According to my mentioned source - there is a reference to Jacob Milliron helping to build a fort at Hannastown - and that's what I'm trying to confirm. Thanks for any help.... Tom

Thanks to all who sent information on Rev. Wion. Questions answered - more questions. Thanks again. Pat
I found Rev. C. W. Wion mentioned in the obituary of my grandmother Eva D Fletcher; September 30, 1971; Indiana Evening Gazette. The obit doesn't mention what church Rev C W Wion represented. Does anyone know who and what church Rev. Wion was associated with? Thanks in advance. Hello Brady Cousins: Just a reminder, the reunion is fast approching and we need to get our food count to the University. The reunion is for any and all descendants of Hugh Brady (born 1709) and his wife Hannah McCormick. Children are welcome. This is a reunion for the entire family. Revolutionary Encampment, free covered wagon rides, lots of Colonial re-enactors and Craft demonstrators. If you have not yet sent in your registration and you are planning to do so, please let me know so we can reserve your meals. The May 2006 Newsletters were all sent last week. If you did not receive yours, please let me know. A few were returned to me. So.... Hitch up the Team, Load up the Wagon and Head On Home to the land where Hugh & Hannah and their children lived, worked and prayed. Through the generosity of Bruce Lampe, owner of the Old Brady Homestead, we will be at the property for the reunion on Friday June 30 & Sat July 1, 2006. There is going to be a great opportunity to help get things ready on Friday June 30. Come early and lend a hand. Many hands make light work. See you there! Cousin Donna
Does anyone on the list have information on a Sproul line in Allegheny Township from 1840 to at least the 1870s? I'm specifically curious about the family of William Sproul age 65 in 1860 census, Elizabeth (46), James (26), Ann J. (16), Johnston (14), Robert (12), and Margarith (10). Any Sproul researchers? Hi Barbara, Sorry to say but almost all of the records for veterans of WW1 were burnt up in a fire in 1973! [Two previous "Genealogy Notes," Michael Knapp's "World War I Service Records" (Fall 1990) and, with Constance Potter, "Here Rests in Honored Glory: World War I Graves Registration" (Summer 1991), described the complications of searching for personnel files in the custody of the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) because of the devastating fire there in 1973. They presented ideas on how to utilize a few of the valuable sources in the National Archives, such as the burial files and the troop ship manifests, as alternatives to the lost service records. The 1973 fire destroyed U.S. Army personnel records created from 1912 to 1963, but it did not damage U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps personnel files. While the fire left a tremendous gap in locating personnel information, the gap may be partially filled in through other extant records. This issue of "Genealogy Notes" goes beyond the scope of the previous articles by exploring a selection of the vast number of additional World War I records in the custody of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). These records often provide clues to personnel serving in a variety of capacities in the U.S. Army during World War I. Conducting research in the records described in this article is sometimes a very labor-intensive and time-consuming procedure but, in the opinion of this author, is a task that has the potential for rewarding results. (snip) The Marine Corps personnel records are among the holdings of the National Personnel Records Center and were not affected by the 1973 fire.] The above info is from the NARA: http://www.archives.gov/publications/prologue/1998/fall/military-service-in-wo rld-war-one.html#enlisted NOW for the GOOD NEWS -- in 1934 there was a "VETERAN'S COMPENSATION" paid to Veterans of W.W.I! I have dates for 2 Orphan's Court proceedings for my ancestor from the early 1800s. Is there some kind soul who would look up these court proceedings in the index and find out the docket, page and file numbers, and whether there are any other proceedings in the OC for my ancestor? Once I have this info, I would request copies from the courthouse. Thanks! Sherry
