Hi Dawne, This is James' brother. He eventually moves to Butler Co. I don't know if he ever received land or if James just shared some of his land with him. William helped find Massey Harbison. Thanks a bunch for your replies. They were all very helpful - especially finding that Hill, Painter, and Atchison all served in the same company of Frontiersmen. I wonder if the coincidece of them living next to each other might be attributable to that land where they settled together being bounty land? (What do you call it?) Anyhow, what I've discovered is that whole northwestern corner of Westmoreland was Pitt Township of Allegheny - north of Brush Valley up to the Kiski River - and east into the head waters of Turtle Creek - which is where they were. Because of the waterways, that area was considered to be more "Pittsburgh" than "Westmoreland." The patent I have is dated 1784, which would be before the time it was fully incoporated into Westmoreland. I think John Peter Hill's place was just north of Export, where Hills Church Road starts north from Westertown Road. His son Peter is my ancestor, and he lived next to Hill's Church, on Hill's Church Road. The 1867 map shows a J.Hill and M. Painter in that area. It's not really on Turtle Creek, but qualifies as "in the waters." Tom
Hi Tom, I don't know if anything I have will help you but will send you some attachments to your personal e-mail. I am interested in the Atchison family, if you have any information. A Agnes Atchison married Capt. James Leech and I have a Leech line. This marriage was a 2nd one for Agnes - her first was to Alexander Atchison.
