Shirley, From the Pennsylvania State Archives site: "During the years 1852 to 1854, the Register of Wills for each county was required by law to keep records and indexes of births, deaths and marriages. Copies from 49 of the 64 counties existing at that time are maintained at the Archives; however, returns are not inclusive for these years. There are no returns for Blair, Clarion, Clinton, Crawford, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Fulton, Jefferson, Lebanon, Philadelphia, Pike, Potter, Sullivan, or Wyoming County." I have never seen microfilm of the originals of these records. The FHL catalog shows only transcriptions and I know that the Indiana Co. Courthouse has only typed lists of these records. I just put a call into the Archives to try and find out if the originals or copies of the originals still exist. I left a voice mail message with one of the archivists and if I get an answer I will post it. Please be sure to state when you post that the list is a transcription of a transcription -- mistakes happen. I am very lucky in that my ggg-grandmother's second marriage was recorded in Indiana Co., however, her first name is listed as "Mary" not "Ann". I would love to know if that was an error by the recorder or a transcription error. Does anyone have information on the Whigam family who lived in Westmoreland County? I've gotten as far back as Hugh Whigam, but can not find birth or death records on him. I believe he passed away before 1850. His wife was Lucinda Altman. He had three children: Johannes (b. 1842), Mathew Snodgrass (b. 1846)and Sara Magdalena (b. 1848). I have found a great deal of info on the Altman side of the family, but nothing on the Whigam's. Any help or lead would be greatly appreciated. Gretchen Fischer glfktm71@comcast.net
Hi Dawne, I've not seen the first entry. Since Agnes Graham is listed as formerly Agnes Edger would you say Elizabeth, Margaret and Jean were deceased as they are listed as late? If that is so, then Jean could be the first wife of James Leech. I've never checked the spelling as LECHIE. I do have the last two. Hi Dawne, I didn't have this. The following is all I had. Thank you so much. At some time James goes to Kentucky and I don't know if Agnes went with him. I was always going to work on that but never did. James did return and died 1803 in Pa. Since Beatty was a relative that may be Agnes' maiden name. I wish Tom would have requested info on a neigbor living close to my Laughlin's. :) Per Roy Leech:"Records Westmoreland County On 3-27-1779 Administrations papers filed by William Beatty a relative. 1784 James Leech was released. In 1784 James Leech petitioned the court on behalf of Agnes his wife who was formerly intermarried with Alexander Atchinson to show cause why he should settle the estate. Apparently Alexander Atchinson must have been killed with John Leech on Feb. 26, 1779. Alexander Atchinson was a member of Capt. James Leech company."
