    1. [PAWESTMO] Newspaper clippings and genealogy society
    2. Lona Boudreaux
    3. Hi Everyone, I have newspaper clippings, marriages, deaths etc, that my maternal great grandmother saved that I don't want. Does New Kensington or Arnold have a genealogy society that would want to see them? Or is it just Tarentum? I will be happy to mail these too them and if they don't want them, they can throw them away. Lona Laughlin Boudreaux Monroe, La.

    1. [PAWESTMO] BETSY SELL, WIFE OF ANDREW ROW
    2. Andy Rowe
    3. Hi Rau, Row, Row researchers, Thought I would pass this on. I subscribe to the CELLE Newsletter. In the April 2008 edition there is an article titled 'WANTED: Parents of Betsy Sell Rowe, m.a. 1781, Northampton Co., Pa. The article generally eliminated the possibility of Betsy's parents being John Sell (son of Hendrick.) That particular Elizabeth/Betsy married Phillip Jacob Leicester 26 Sep 1772. The article states: "Their children were all baptized between 1773 and 1795 at the Indianfield Lutheran Church in Montgomery County, PA; and Elizabeth Sell's brother Anthony Sell was a sponsor at two of these baptisms. Therefore this Elizabeth Sell was not likely the one who married Andrew Rowe abt 1781." I further explored the possibility with the author, Carolyn Cell Choppin, and Dick Sell the possibility children could have been baptized after the death of their father, Phillip, but they kindly provided dates of birth for the children that made it impossible that she could have been married to my Andrew Row in 1781. Now we are left with no idea of who Betsy Sell's parents are, but at least we are now able to eliminate one possibility. It is far better to have no idea than one that is incorrect. We must keep on looking. Does anyone out there have any ideas? Andy Rowe

    1. [PAWESTMO] CARSON's 1800's Derry Twp.
    2. Lona Boudreaux
    3. Hi List, Anyone working or have information on the CARSON's living in Derry Twp. in the 1800's? One of my 3rd great paternal grandmother's was Annie CARSON who married, Oct 22, 1818 Derry Twp., Westmoreland Co., Pa., Henry GREGG. My source on this marriage date and location is: Westmoreland County Marriages & Deaths from Weekly Newspapers 1818-1865 Vol. 1 by Fischer, Gregg, Henry & Ann Carson both Derry Twp. married 10-22-1818 by John Shaw Esq. (10-31-1818). Family information passed down as always said Henry GREGG was married to Annie CARSON. I feel she has a connection to Joseph CARSON, found in the 1790's Census Derry Twp., Westmoreland Co. Pa., since she named one of her sons Joseph Carson GREGG and both CARSON's and GREGG's live in Derry Twp. As usual I can't prove it. I've been able to find Joseph CARSON in the 1790 (only CARSON I could find),1800 and 1810 Census Derry Twp., Westmoreland Co. I'm assuming the CARSON males I found in the 1800, 1810 and 1820 are his sons. I couldn't find Joseph after 1810 and feel he must of died or living with one of his son's and I misread something. By 1830 Derry Twp., I found the GREGG's and the CARSON's living close to each other. I also feel Prine CARSON, in the 1830 Census Derry Twp., could be a brother, or related in some way, to Annie. From the passed down family information on my GREGG line, Margaret F. GREGG, Henry GREGG's sister, married Prine CARSON. I have a little more on the CARSON's and willing to share. Any help is appreciated. Lona Laughlin Boudreaux Monroe, La.

    3. I have responded off-list to poster Theresa concerning her request. I understand that only recently a researcher has taken on and completed the task of "reading" the Union Cemetery, Freeport Road, Arnold. I'm not at liberty to disclose her name & occupation, but she does work in the Westmoreland Co local history field. She may be a subscriber to this list and may chose to reply herself. When more info is made available to the public, I'm sure someone will update this list. I am looking for information on any SCHIETZING that may be in that cemetery. I know my gr gr grandparents Daniel and Barbara (Thane) SCHIETZING are buried there. I do not know the dates of their death and am hoping a transcription somewhere of that cemetery could provide those dates, or at the least the year. I know for sure Daniel was living at the time of the 1920 census and he is listed as a widow. I couldn't find them at all in the 1910 census so the last record I have for Barbara being alive was the 1900 census. They are living in allegheny county in the 1900 and 1920 census. 1. Re: [PAWESTMO] St. Vincent cemetery
    2. A while back there were several posts regarding burials in the St. Vincent Cemetery, Latrobe, PA. I emailed the address that was given but it has come back as a mailer daemon.? Anyone know what the valid email address is for contacting this cemetery?? I have a cousin who told me that the records for the church are unavailable, possibly due to fire or loss.? I am searching for a burial for a Patrick KELLY, b. abt. 1820, Ireland; d.o.d. ???? probably between 1853 and 1856.? My 2x greatgrandmother, Mary Ann DOLAN (1825--1890) married Richard HALL Sept 185 St. Paul's, PIttsburgh.? Mary Ann and Patrick's second child, Mary Anna KELLY? was born June 1854, so Patrick had to have been in the picture in 1853, but died between this date and the date of marriage for Mary Ann Dolan and Richard Hall, 1856. Suzie Johnston has searched the Pgh diocese records and had come up empty handed. Any suggestions as to how to access baptism, marriage, or burial records for either the church or the cemetery? Many thanks, Marybeth C. [email protected]

    3. Helen, OK, I see now. I had to go through almost the whole township before I found something to be as you described,(18 Aliens in one household...whoa! ) then when I went back to the top half of the form, expecting there to be lots of tic marks indicating perhaps a boarding house or somesuch. But the line matching up to the 18 aliens was BLANK, the whole way across. So I'll keep looking, but I do understsand how it works, tho. 1. Re: [PAWESTMO] Census Records -- Citizenship?
    2. Bella, The Ancestry.com BLANK print out schedule/form for 1830 Census is the same as the ORIGINAL schedules/forms for the 1830 Census. I did a survey of the following States & Territories, all them are ORIGINAL schedules/forms for the 1830 Census -- same as the BLANK schedules/forms for the 1830 Census! Alabama - Connecticut - Delaware - Florida - Georgia - Illinois - Indiana - Kentucky - Louisiana - Maine - Maryland - Massachusetts - Michigan Territory - Mississippi - Mississippi. I NEVER found "the question," on the BOTTOM of the page, of any ORIGINAL form! If a person named Joseph FOUSE is on line #5 -- all the info on line 5, page 1, would refer to him & his household. Following on page 2, line 5, it would continue with more info on Joseph FOUSE & his household. If under ALIEN, on line 5, is the #1, it means one person in that household is an Alien. If it has the #4, under ALIEN, on line 5, it means there are 4 people who are ALIENS in Joseph FOUSE's household. Hence, at the bottom of the page, (under ALIEN), would be the TOTAL, of all the different ALIENS, living in all the different households on that page! 3. Helen, one question. I was unaware of the 1830 notation for NA/AL, however after taking a look at the image of someone I know , that question is on the BOTTOM of the ORIGINAL form, or, as we look at it on Ancestry.com, on the NEXT page. 2. Hello, Thank you for your input, well taken, but I believe just about everyone is aware that there are mistakes made in census record. A child in the family, could be giving the census taker incorrect info because that is what he/she thinks is true. On the other hand, it could be an old feeble minded person in the family who doesn't remember things very well. Of course, you also have neighbors giving your family info, too, because you are not home. Last but not least, you have the census taker, on a hot day -- how much did he indulge in the fine spirits because of a great thirst that day?? 3. Census info did not require verification... it was taken most often by an English speaker and often times the person at home was foreign born.... for instance my Great Grandparents came from Croatia, name PRISELAC... now Croatian is a phonetic language.... that is if you understand the Croatian alphabet.. this name is pronounced as prrreeselats... one census taker wrote PRESELATZ another PRESELATS... both of course hearing the lady of the house speak her name... they wrote what they heard .... with their American ears... and as far as the date of arrival... hey can we remember what we had for breakfast this AM ! Maybe maybe not. I have seen Naturalization papers give the name of the wrong ship. But this was no different than us migrating from one state to another for a new job... we don''t recall the van lines that moved us nor the name of the airline we flew on... 10 or 20 years later :) Someone on one of the message boards said they saw a notation on a census page that the census takere was inibreated But all in all they are good sources for info and your post very good info.
