When I checked to see if they (Footnote) have the pension papers for one that I all ready had, the only thing that came up was his index card and nothing on his pension papers. Some days i'm not the sharpest, but is that what you would click on to get his papers, or maybe it is just that they haven't scanned his yet. In fact the index cards for the other ones that I have were the only thing that came up for that person, when I looked through the civil war section. Was at the Archives in Wash. D.C. last year. Get there early as it takes all day. First you go through the security check, all metal things in a basket, then you have to get an ID tag to go around your neck, which you leave there each time you exit, then it was way to the back of the first floor to the " Civil War microfilm, half of the readers didn't work, then you copy that info on a form and go back out and put it in a basket where it gets picked up every hour. We put ours in at 10:30. You have several hours to wait, so go have lunch, they have a snack shop in the basement, but we went to a nice place across the street from the Archives. Before you can get to the second floor, where your records will be, you have to have a photo ID taken(good for one year) you'll enter your info in a computer. You cannot take your coat, jacket, etc. or purse to the second floor, no pencil or papers, they provide them once your up there. So everything goes into a locker, which costs 25 cents. Finally you get to the second floor, then you wait until they call your name and give you the info. It was 3:00 until we got ours and they close at 4:30, we went back the next day// Also have lot's of dollar bills with you for the photocopying machines. So get there early and have fun/ Marlene **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. Be sure to get to the archives early in the day. The last time I was there, you had to order the file and then come back in a few hours to view it. In a message dated 7/31/2008 3:36:06 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Once you type his name in while in the Civil War part, it will come up with everything on your ancestor. If you have signed in all you have to do is print it out. That's it. That's what is on the film. You will want the date of filing for both and the certificate numbers on the form that the microfilm room will give you. They will check the form to make sure the information is on there, but not its accuracy. What a shame we didn't have inter-net when we were going to the archives. We had to do so many preliminaries that are spelled out online now. Since the remodeling they may have changed a lot. So that's why I said ask the guard where the rooms are. The microfilm room used to be on the 4th floor and the reading room on the second floor. I don't know if they still are. It will be a great trip for you. A new experience to be among so many old records. Shirley **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. Once you gign into Footnote.com - go to the left part of the page. You will see Revolutionarey War, Civil War etc. Go to the civil War and click on it. You will have to register for a free 7 day trail to access the files for free and then cancel it. They don't bother you after you cancel it. Once you are in the cilv war file, you can see if your person is in there records. I would ckeck the file before accessing the sign up for the 7 day free trial. If he is in there...then you can access the free trial. Thanks. How do I get the whole file from Footnote??? I know how to get the index but I got that already from Ancestry. Hi, I should have made myself clearer. I was looking up a 1850 census on my GG Grandfather for information for my distant cousin over in Ireland. My GG Grandfather was a RR contractor and there were lists of people that were living in shanties. They apparently were working out in Unity Township. Noting that it was 1850, I paged backwards and saw some names that were common to relatives over in the area that my GG Grandfather came from. I shared all of this information with my distant relative. He noted that the names were all in an order that indicated family resemblance. We are now trying to find out some further information about them. The History of Westmoreland County by Dallas Albert always lists the person in the town and their occupation. I know because I have referenced this material before. All I want is for someone to give me the web address to get to this site. I know that it is on the web as I have used it before. Thanks, Mary Ellen **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. (http://www.fanhouse.com/fantasyaffair?ncid=aolspr00050000000020)

In a message dated 7/30/2008 3:17:49 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: I was wondering how someone can check the 1850 Industrial Census. I don't think I'm familiar with it. I'm a member at ancestry.com, but I didn't see it listed there. I would appreciate any help you may be able to give me. I found it in Washington DC at the NARA. Industrial and agriculture censuses were taken in 1850 and 1860 for Westmoreland Co. Not all counties nor all sates cooperated by sending a copy to the NARA, the worker told me. (States' Rights, blah blah blah, won't share, blah blah blah--it's a political issue that still hampers us genealogists, too.) I was told that the State of Indiana had the two censuses but I would have to go to the Indiana State Archives to read them. So I assume Harrisburg has our 2 censuses. You might want to check at the Carnegie Library online, too. Maybe someone on line can tell you. The enumerator made a comment at the beginning of the Agriculture film that he felt the people were withholding or underestimating their wealth, since anything enumerated was taxable, even butter, cream, whatever they had stocked. Despite that, I was surprised how much my gr.gr.grandparents did admit to owning. I'm just sorry I didn't think to look at the Industrial census for 1850. Now it's too late. I can't travel to DC anymore. Shirley Maynard Hampton, VA **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today.
