    1. [PAWESTMO] Weber Memorial
    2. Shirley Hunt
    3. FYI When I was in the courthouse in Greensburg, a lady there told me there was a cemetery with a lot of Longs at the Weber Memorial in Youngwood.  She gave me directions, however, it was quite difficult to find (sign missing, among other things).  Youngwood is a few short miles south of Greensburg on Rt. 119.  You turn west at Depot Street and continue a few miles (maybe two or three) bearing left where the road splits and you come to Milliron Church Road.  You can only turn left and you go past a picnic pavilion to a very small church (I guess that is Weber Memorial church)?  Next to the church is the small cemetery with the Longs including Tobias and Simon.  Some of the stones are impossible to read, some have been replaced with newer monuments and others are easily read.  Why it is called Weber Memorial, I cannot answer because clearly there are more Longs buried there than any other surname.  I don't remember even seeing a Weber stone.  There was an Andrew Eisaman and family there and a few other surnames as well.  Hope this helps someone. Shirley Hunt

    2. In a message dated 8/6/2008 3:25:58 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: There are no county records of marriages prior to the late 1800's. You need to rely on newspaper notices (which have been abstracted for some newspapers) and church records (you need to know the denomination). Wills and deeds, of course, also provide information. Don't forget civil war pension and widows' pension records. I found several of mine. Unfortunately, some went to Pittsburgh to get married by a JP and weren't able to produce proof, but fortunately, the relatives from around the country wrote letters supporting their marriage. . There are records from 1820 to 1865, however. I found Benjamin Moore married to Catherine Albert, 23 Oct. 1856. Citation: _Brush Creek Lutheran Church Westmoreland County, Penna., Marriages 1820 to 1865_. Compiled by Fort Hand DAR, 1935. "Record of Marriages of Jonas Mechling." Jonas Mechling was the Evangelical Lutheran Minister of the Gospel, Greensburg, Westmoreland Co., PA. Catherine was from Mount. Pleasant. I found Ben when I rented the film thru the LDS about 10 or so years ago. Shirley Maynard Hampton, VA **************Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? 3. Art,      From the 1782 Petition for A New State in "The Ten Mile Country and Its Pioneer Families" by Howard L. Leckey, the name JOHN MCCLELLAND is listed four times.  This could be the same person or different people as this petition was circulated from 1780-1782 before being presented to Congress on January 23, 1783.  There is also a JAMES MCCLELLAND, GEORGE MCCORMICK and JAMES MCCORMICK who is listed twice.  None of your other names appear on this petition.      The other petition of the Virginia inhabitants is known as Petition No. 8 and was presented to the then Govenor of Virginia Harris in June 1782.  The petitioners were asking the Govenor of Virginia that since their lands were now above the Mason-Dixon line should they pay allegience to Pennsylvania or were they still Virginians.  A list of names on this petition is found in "Yohogania County A Short Lived County" by Raymond M. Bell.  There is a copy of this book at the Citizens Library in Washington, PA.  I don't have the names on this list at my fingertips, but I will look for your names the next time I am at Citizens and let you know if I find them.      Both petitions were also published in their entirety in the "History of Washington County, Pennsylvania" by Boyd Crumrine (1882).   Editions of this book are found in several libraries across the country. If you go to WorldCat (www.worldcat.org) and search this title and then click on one the title links,  it brings up a page where you can put in your zip code  and it will give you the libraries in your surrounding area that have a copy of the book.      Both petitions are very interesting reading and really give insight into the frustration of the settlers in the upheaval and confusion caused by the land dispute between Pennsylvania and Virginia.   Pam Nixon Westland, Pennsylvania USA [email protected]
