My ancestor (Mamie Gerry, spouse to Richard Duane Reed) died in 1892, probably in Honesdale, PA. Wayne County doesn't have a record of this death. they said a surrounding county may have it, since the area was once Northampton County. My question is this: If Wayne County was formed from Northampton in 1798, why would death records from prior to November 1893 be elsewhere, as stated in a letter from the Wayne County Prothonotary? And since they may be elsewhere, would the current Northampton County Seat have them?
