Ed, You are absolutely correct. Wayne County death records would not be in any other county. However, what the person who wrote you apparently did not know was that Pennsylvania did not start keeping death records until 1893. You might want to check with the Wayne County Historical Society to see if they have an obituary or other record. Gloria McCullough, the research librarian, also does paid research which includes a courthouse visit for wills, deeds, etc. - but of course she wouldn't find an official death record before 1893. Wayne County doesn't have a record of this death. they said a surrounding county may have it, since the area was once Northampton County. My question is this: If Wayne County was formed from Northampton in 1798, why would death records from prior to November 1893 be elsewhere, as stated in a letter from the Wayne County Prothonotary? And since they may be elsewhere, would the current Northampton County Seat have them? > > Thanks > > Ed Reed > Edward11 REED (William10, William9, Richard8, Egbert7, Charles6, Josiah5, Josiah4, John3, Thomas2, John1) > ( http://www.mindspring.com/~dabbler ) > Researching REED, COMSTOCK, HETTES, JONES (MD, PA, CT, RI) > > > > ==== PAWAYNE Mailing List ==== > To unsubscribe to PAWAYNE mailing list (list mode) Address to: [email protected] > type UNSUBSCRIBE in the body of the message; nothing more. > For Digest mode: address to [email protected] > type UNSUBSCRIBE in the body of the message; nothing more. > > ============================== > Search over 1 Billion names at Ancestry.com! > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/rwlist1.asp > > >
