Hi all, ---Been out of town and just catching up to your discussion on Thomas Bortree. There is a problem somewhere. The Thomas Bortree who was the son of Robert Bortree and Margaret Holland and who married Anna Killiam, died and was buried at: Old Paupack Cemetery Bortree Thomas d. Feb. 11, 1864 age 72 years He was born in February of 1792 in Killyman Parish, Co. Tyrone, Ireland The Will of Thomas Bortree that is recorded at Honesdale is his will of Jan. 1857. Is this the same Will that is referenced... "The Register of Thomas' will is dated 1864: 'Wayne County, ? this day before me M. Regan Jr., Jno. H. Williams, Register for the probate of wills and Letters of Lyman Ames, Administration....he was of sound mind, memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief. Witness my hand and official seal in Honesdale this 9th day of March 1864.'" I am writing this without having been there or seeing it myself so I could be very wrong. Are there TWO WILLS for Thomas Bortree at the Honesdale Courthouse? If so, then I would guess they belong to two different men. ~Robin
Here is what I condensed the will down to on my FTM file (I transcribed the entire will and it is on-line connected to the Samuelson wills): #943 - WILL and TESTAMENT of Thomas Bortree 2nd Page 208: 'I, Thomas Bortree 2nd of Salem Township, Wayne County and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania...my dearly beloved, (Hima?- this could be Anna with a fancy A), ....my daughter, Esther Noble....my son Benjamin H.....my daughter Mary Depew....my son S. L. (?) ....my daughter, Emeline Quinby....my son Moses....my grandson George Constable....In witness thereof I have herewith set my hand and seal the fifth day of January AD, one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven. Signed, sealed, published and declare, Thomas Bortree (seal) by the Said Testator, Thomas Bortree 2nd.' 'Wayne County, ? this day before me M. Regan Jr., Jno. H. Williams, Register for the probate of wills and Letters of Lyman Ames, Administration....he was of sound mind, memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief. Witness my hand and official seal in Honesdale this 9th day of March 1864.' The children he names coincide with his children.
