    2. My Irish Catholic ancestors and families worked on the D. & H. Canal, the glass factory, mills, hotels, and the railroad. Some years ago, I wrote to St. John's Church asking for family info.and they gave my request to a parishoner who had taken on the job of doing the research in the church's records. At that time, it cost $10 for the first hour and $ 8 for every additional hour spent looking for the information I requested. There are no burial records for that time as the book disappeared. There are marriage and baptismal records though, and the earliest one she found for me was 1842. It gave the child's name, date of birth, date of baptism, parents' names including mother's maiden name, and the sponsors' names. It was worth the money, however, they wouldn't send photocopies, just a transcription. You could get a certified copy signed by the parish priest for a small fee.
