The Glass Factory Cemetery is also where many of my ancestors are buried. Faatz and Olver to name a few Surnames. Years ago one of my 2nd cousins used to cut the grass, but I don't know if he is still doing it now. Maybe we could share some information if we have common ancestors Jim Morgan Syracuse ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ann O'Hara" <yannster@ptd.net> To: <PAWAYNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 01, 2004 5:55 PM Subject: Re: [PAWAYNE] Riverdale Cemetery (German) > As far as I know there was never a church there, but it is sometimes known > as the Glass Factory Cemetery, since many of the Germans worked in the very > early factory that made window glass. As far as I know, my MARTWICK ancestors who are buried in Riverdale were farmers and never glass workers. They owned a farm that was a dairy farm when my grandmother grew up there in the late 1800s and early 1900. The early MARTWICKs, the immigrants came in 1860. Their friend, Adam ROSENER was also a farmer and he is buried there. When was the glass factory operating? Perhaps these are the later burials??? The glass book is upstairs and I'm running out now, but I know that it was the earliest factory in the county, in operation (and closed) well before Christian Dorflinger opened his factory in the 1860s. Of course, not everyone in the cemetery worked in the factory and there are still farms in the area. I'll look up the exact dates when I get home later in the day.
