Hi Sue, According to my relationship calculator in my family tree program, Barbara Langendoerfer was my 2nd great aunt (I'm terrible at figuring out relationships with out it!!). That must make us some kind of cousins (at least by marriage)!! The Peter and Kate (Balles) that I have are Herzog's, not Schillings though. The only Schilling I have that I know of is Walburga. I don't have much on Peter and Kate, but here is what I do have - maybe something will make a connection: Descendants of Peter Herzog Generation No. 1 1. Peter2 Herzog (Joseph1) was born April-26-1863 in Honesdale, Wayne Co., Pennsylvania, and died December-24-1946 in Honesdale, Wayne Co., Pennsylvania. He married Kate Balles. She was born 1866, and died December-24-1945. Notes for Peter Herzog: Info from John Herzog ([email protected]) : His information came from Marion Rickard: Peter & Kate stayed on the Herzog farmstead in Berlin Twp. all their lives. At the end of Bates Road from Cliff St. From The Wayne Independent, Dec. 28, 1946 Peter Herzog Peter Herzog, 83, died Christmas eve. Dec. 24, 1946, at his Berlin Valley home in the boro of Honesdale, one year to the day following the death of his wife, Katharine (Balles) Herzog. He had been ailing since her death and was given care and attention by his only son, Lawrence Herzog, and wife of Jamaica, L.I. Mr. Herzog was born April 26, 1863, in the house in which he died. His parents were Mr. And Mrs. Joseph Herzog. Mr. Herzog was a farmer and one of the pioneer residents of the boro. when it was known as Texas township. He was a frequent visitor to Honesdale, living about two miles from central town, where he had many friends. Mr. Herzog was a member of St. Mary Magdalen church for many years and was also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles of this place. The body was removed to the Hessling funeral chapel, from where the cortege left Friday morning for St. Mary Magdalen church where a requiem of high mass was celebrated by Rev. Linus C. Fricker, pastor. Interment was made in the parish cemetery. Mr. Herzog's immediate survivors are his six grand-children and two great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews 1910 Miracode census index from Ancestry.com Peter Herzog State: PA Enumeration District: 0090 Color: W Age: 44 Birth Place: Pennsylvania Visit: 0224 County: Wayne Relation: Husband ImageNum: 02090553 Other Residents: Wife Kate 42, Pennsylvania Son Lawrence P 21, Pennsylvania Children of Peter Herzog and Kate Balles are: 2 i. Lawrence3 Herzog, born 1889. Notes for Lawrence Herzog: Info from John Herzog ([email protected]) : His information came from Marion Rickard: Lawrence married a widow and had 2 children, Peter and Kitty. In 1984, Kitty was still renting the farm to Eugene Billard, who owns the adjoining property (Brook ?) 3 ii. Joseph R. Herzog, born May-08-1890 in Honesdale, Luzerne, Pennsylvania; died October-08-1890 in Honesdale, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. That's all I have on Kate Balles. I have a little bit on the Langendoerfer's, and information on Barbara's sister Katherine's line down, if you would be interested in that. Would you be willing to share your line down from Barbara? I've recently made contact with another Langendoerfer cousin, who says he has more information on the Langendoerfers. He's putting it all on a web site, and is supposed to let me know when he has it up and running. I don't have anything else on Walburga Schilling, other than according to the 1870 census, she was born in Bavaria, Germany. I have a birth date of 1/21/1824, and a death date of 7/31/1881. I also have a copy of an 1872 map of Berlin Township that shows the location of Joseph (and Walburga) Herzog's farm (spelled Hercog). Two houses above them is a W. Shilling (for whatever that's worth). Let me know if you want any of the other information.
