Walter - the actual record shows John N. - so be sure to check anything that is close to the name you are looking for. Janet

Lisa Carey L'Archevesque -----Original Message----- From: Holly Jagger [mailto:hjagger@pronetisp.net] Sent: Monday, March 29, 2004 4:06 PM To: PAWAYNE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PAWAYNE] Delaware twp. PIKE County Regarding my earlier post on Delaware twp., on the Pike County Chamber of Commerce site, there is found: Delaware Township The oldest of Pike's Townships, was in existence before 1766 as part of Northhampton County. It was named because it bordered the Delaware River and originally extended west to Luzerne County line. So Delaware twp. (before 1766), Lackawaxen (1798), Palmyra (1798), Upper & Middle Smithfield, became part of Pike County when it was formed from Wayne in 1814. That means I should be searching for this William(s) Harris in PIKE County by the 1820 census. Or ANY Harris, for that matter. (Also, if early Delaware twp. once bordered Luzerne County line, I should be searching in Luzerne County records as well--which I have actually already done.) does anyone have access to 1820 Pike census records or index? thanks Holly ==== PAWAYNE Mailing List ==== Be sure to visit the Wayne County, Pennsylvania web page at www.rootsweb.com/~pawayne ============================== Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial. 3. Listers, Are there any Delaware Twp., Wayne County historians out there? This census record gave me pause to consider he could be the father of my William Harris b. 1798 PA of Paupack twp. (I would like to trace this man, but no record of him in 1790 or 1810 census. If he died bef. 1810, wife could be in that twp., but no idea what her maiden name would be.) your thoughts appreciated--and Yes, his first name in census index has an 's' at the end... error?! Holly [**A WILLIAM(S) HARRIS appears in 1800 census for DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, Wayne County. His wife (female in the household) was born between 1774 and 1784, and they had three boys in the decade 1790-1800, with one son born earlier. (One female b. between 1790 and 1800 as well.)
