Lisa, "Drinker's Beech" were a series of articles written by G. Ellis Miller, a local genealogist, that appeared in "The Villager". "The Villager" is a local paper in the Mount Cobb / Lake Ariel area. The articles appeared through the 1960's and 70's. They were written about a lot of the families in the area, and quite a bit of local history. You can get the films through the LDS also. I have hard copy of the "Drinker's Beech" articles, as does the GRSNP and the North Pocono Public Library. The Scranton Public Library has films of "The Villager". Bear in mind that Mr. Miller is not always accurate. But he can put you in the direction you need to look. Can anyone explain in simple layman's terms what "Drinker's Beach" is/was exactly. Publication? Written by whom? Compiled by whom? Accuracy? Etc. I got some info from it that is being quoted over and over about my 3rd Great Grandmother, Rosanna Swartz Cobb Carey Swingle. Thanks, Lisa Carey L'Archevesque
Hi, I am searching for the parents of William H. Barhite. He was the second spouse of Roxey M. Conklin (widow of Benjamin Boults). He served in the Civil War. According to the 1880 Census he was born about 1825 in NY. 1900 Census for Damascus Township, Wayne County, PA says that he was born in Sep 1825 in NY. I have seen the surname spelled as Barhite, Borhite, Burhite, Barhight, and Burhyte. According to Census records William and Roxey had children, Debbie E., Phillip E., and Nicholas Conklin Barhite. The Indian Orchard Cemetery shows a burial for a Martin Barhite (1903-1960) and his wife, May (1922-). Does anyone know if they are connected to the above referenced family? If anyone has any info on these folks, I sure would appreciate their sharing. Thanks, Carol Potter Meadows

If you could try sending info again to ddramlester@aol.com perhaps Ill be able to open it. I'm slowly adding my info to Rootsweb world connect project--if the attachment goes through you should be able to see what I got about my grandfather Bernhard FICKEN. I have gone back only to his grandfather Peter, which I am confident is correct. I have seen different info regarding Peter Ficken's father. If you search Bernhard Ficken in World Connect there are three other databases...The Engelken and Prigge databases show different info past Peter---I tend to believe the Engelken file. As I have stated in past---my mother is confident that her father Bernhard Ficken was the only member from his direct family to come over from Germany. She does remember another Ficken family from the Shohola area, but they were not related. Perhaps this is same Ficken that was your father's friend. Hi David, You never acknowledged the report that I sent you on Clarence Stevenson. Also I would like the information on the Ficken side of your family, if you don't mind. Carol
And I found on the 1880 census transcripts from familysearch.org, page 345D in Lackawaxen, Pike Co.-----Catherine Dever--widow--age 52--b. NY--father b. CT--mother b. NY. Descendants of John De Vere Generation No. 1 1. JOHN1 DE VERE was born Abt. 1824, and died 1863 in Dundaff, New York. He married CATHERINE C. HUNT Abt. 1848 in New York State. She was born March 27, 1826 in Ellenville, New York, died March 10, 1916 in Port Jervis, New York. Notes for JOHN DE VERE: Absolutely NO sign of a John Devere, Vere, Vandervear, any soundexed spelling, 1850, 1860--in NY or PA. Tried Durr, Dier, Duryea, anything close, either in spelling or locale. No sign of a Catherine DeVere, any spelling, 1850 thru 188o--when she should show up as a widow, in 1870, at least. No Deveres in PA, other than a Rachel--1860. Statewide. Louisa/L./ L.A., Laura, was abt 6 in 1860, and 16 in 1870, she does not show in anyone's household, under any spelling, in either NY or PA. Very odd she would miss the census all the time. Even tried Jackson--thinking she'd accidentally been listed under Andrew Jackson, the said to be other husband of Catherine (Hunt) Devere. Child of JOHN DE VERE and CATHERINE HUNT is: 2. i. I looked with interest your information on Mary Lord of Honesdale. I have tried for several years to find additional Lord information with very little luck. The Lords I am researching are: Louisa A. DeVere, born in Honesdale in 1854. She married a Geo. N. Lord. I know that Louisa and her mother, Catherine C, DeVere lived in and around Honesdale, Dundaff, and Lackawaxen. Catherine was married twice, 1st to a Mr. Andrew Jackson and 2nd to Mr. John Devere. I would appreicate any help and direction that you might provide. I live in Colorado so doubt that I will ever get back to that part of the country

Ann, thanks for the offer to do lookups in the Maple Hill Baptist Church records. I'd appreciate it if you'd look for Peck, Alexander and Kennedy records. Juliet (Peck) Kennedy was active in the Phoenix Baptist Church near Pleasant Mount, but that church disbanded in 1897 and members united with other churches, most of them going to the Maple Grove Church in Mount Pleasant Township. Since Juliet Kennedy and her family moved to Deposit in 1906-7, it's possible she joined Maple Hill Baptist. If anything turns up about the Phoenix Baptist Church records, please let me know. I've already searched the records at the WCHS library--unless there's been something new added in the last two years. Thanks for all the good work you do. A fellow researcher directed me to the info on St. Cecilia cemetery and I note that Patrick CAVENEY and Mary CAVNEY are listed but there are no dates just the comment ....they gave land to the cemetery. Patrick and Mary CAVENEY I think are part of the line that I am researching. I am interested in obtaining any information I can on this surname. Is there anyway I can find additional information, such as is there some sort of records at the cemetery, church, etc that might give me some leads. Would appreciate any suggestions, recommendations u might have. Thanks Regards, Walt
