    1. Boucher-Conklin Connection
    2. Hi All, The 1910 Census for Damascus Township, Wayne County, PA shows a William Boucher, aged 79, living with a niece, Gladys Conklin, aged 19. Can anyone help me connect the two via the parents of Gladys or the children of William? Previous censuses for Wayne County show several William Boucher (Burcher). By searching previous censuses, I have discovered that the Boucher name seems to have evolved to Burcher. Thanks for any assistance that anyone can provide. Carol Potter Meadows

    3. My records show that William Atlee Teeple (1897-1967) married Ada Lester and had three children: Orvis (1920-2004), Henry (1924-2001) and Howard (1924-1945). Ada Lester was born 1895 and died 1925. William subsequently married Ienza Dailey (1901-1960). They had one child, Norma J. Teeple White (1931-1992). Elizabeth Teeple Coddington and brother William Henry Teeple were children of William Finley Teeple and Sarah Quick. William Atlee Teeple is the son of William Henry Teeple. Elizabeth Teeple Coddington (1864-1947) was married to Charles J. Coddington (? - 1936). They raised Henry and Howard. Orvis was raised by his father. This data was confirmed a few years back by Henry Leon Teeple (1924-2001). I have more dates if you need them. I got the obit from the Wayne Independent for Orvis W. Teeple, who just died. In the obit it stated that his parents were Atlee Teeple and Ada Lester. It also stated that two brother Howard and Henry predeceased him. I had gone to the 1930 Census images on Ancestry.Com to see if I could find the family. They showed Orvis as Orvin. When I went to the actual image it really does say Orvis, but you have to be looking really closely. However, the wife of W. Atlee Teeple is shown as Ienza L. (at least that is what it looks like). It appears that if might be her first marriage and his second. They have only been married about 4 years. I have from family information that Atlee Teeple was married to Ada Lester. Does anyone have a death date for Ada Lester Teeple? Does anyone know for sure if Atlee had a second wife and what her name was? I also found Orvis' brothers, Henry and Howard (they were twins). However they are shown as living with grandparents, Charles J. and Elizabeth S. Coddington. According to my information, their grandparents were William Henry and Maude (maiden name unknown) Teeple and Howard and Millie Eustacia Potter Lester. Could the Coddingtons have been great grandparents and perhaps the parents of Maude? Or were the Coddingtons perhaps parents of the second wife of Atlee Teeple, Ienza? My family information did not list a sister for Orvis named Norma; however, his obituary says that he had a sister, Norma White, who predeceased him. Does anyone have any information on Norma? Are her parents Atlee Teeple and Ada Lester? Any help in sorting this out would be greatly appreciated. But that far enough back I can't pick it family connections on census work and I am finding NOTHING online about Carmie Galord of any generation. That will have to be left up to a serious Gaylord searcher, or someone with way too much time on their hands to check deed records and such... Iris

    3. The Ancestry.com index says "H. M. J." and I would have to agree, based on how the enumerator made those letters in other names. I'm not researching Gaylords, but I do note that Anson is not included in the list of Giles Gaylord's children in Mathews, and in fact isn't mentioned in Mathews at all. I couldn't find them in Wayne County in 1860, so widened the search and found an Amasa Gaylord in Illinois who I am convinced is the man called Anson in 1850. Comparison: 1850 1860 Anson, 55, b. CT. Amasa, 66, b. CT Mary, 50, b. MA Mary, 60, b. MA Mary M., 27, b. PA Mary M.*, 36, b. PA D. H., 12, b. PA David H., 22, b. PA H. M., 8, b. PA Henry M., 18, b. PA L. E., 4, b. PA Lucien E., 15, b. PA *In 1860, she is "Mary M. Arnold, widow and daughter." Then I went back to 1840 and found "Amasa Gaylord, Jr." in Clinton Twp., aged 40-50. Conclusion: "Anson" Gaylord is really Amasa Gaylord, who left Wayne County between 1850 and 1860. If this is common knowledge among Gaylord researchers, forgive me. Incidentally, Carol, I also found in 1840 a "Carmi" Gaylord, 70-80, living with two younger males. A grandfather? 2. Hi All, I noticed recently that there has been some discussion of the Gaylord Family, which prompted me to check my database. I have a Rufus M. Gaylord. In the 1870 Census for Clinton Township, Wayne County, PA, he is married to Orpha. I assumed that Orpha was Orpha Stevenson, since her sister Hannah was living in the household as a domestic. Can someone confirm that I made a correct assumption? Orpha and Hannah were the daughters of Arthur and Kate (maiden name unknown) Stevenson. I located Rufus in the 1860 Census for Clinton Township living alone. I have not been able to locate him in the 1850 Census. Does anyone know his parents were? In the 1880 Census, Rufus and Orpha are still in Clinton Township. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Carol Potter Meadows

The teacher was Miss Mary McCarthy of Hawley. She was my teacher for the five years that I spent there. 3. And the Bethel School, a one-room school from ca. 1870 is open the first Sunday of every summer month near Honesdale, PA with special programs and teacher reenactments (I am the current spelling bee champ). On the first Saturday of every summer month (plus July 23) you can visit the Old Stone Jail in Honesdale, in use from the 1850s to the 1930s. For more information on both, contact the Wayne County Historical Society, wchs@ptd.net. Another terrific site to visit in Wayne County is the Dorflinger Worker's Cottage, an original, painstakingly furnished home built by Christian Dorflinger for his glass factory workers in White Mills. Get dates and info from Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary, Inc. Post Office Box 356 White Mills, PA 18473 (570) 253-1185 There's so much to see and do in Wayne County that those of us who live here can't keep up!
