PA; we are not the DAPIXMAN list. Because we use this list to communicate, some of us feel the topics of spelling and grammar are relevant and appropriate. If you find the topics on this list intolerable, remove yourself. The instructions are in the letter you received when you joined. The responsibility is yours, not ours. RE: Spelling Since the topic was opened, I, too have a request. The borough we're most closely associated with is spelled Starrucca. I know many people in the area do not pronounce it that way, which is fine, but when written, it should be spelled correctly. When I was being taught manners (in the Dark Ages), this was considered common courtesy. Thanks! Elaine DICKEY/CUMBO [email protected] ====================== . 2. You may not be able to post a listing of the dead coping it from an already published source, but one thing you can do is start a page where all of us can add to your list. If you list your families, and maybe the "neighbors" to each of the graves, and each of us do just that, we can cover a lot.. not as precise, but it is something, The other thing is the Tombstone Project that is on the web, perhaps you can get with the local Boy Scout Troops and get them interested in doing the cemeteries as an Eagle Scout project. That is working well in a lot of areas. And again, if there really is several sources (the only one I have seen is by the Historian in the Wayne County Historic Society) and they seem to want to keep that within the society... but if there is really more than one, write each author and ask for permission... you never know, they just might say yes..... I have NO problem with my stuff being quoted, used to help, fill in lines, whatever. What I have gotten really fed to the teeth with is those who use, enter in data bases, take credit for---even alter to suit themselves--- work I've done, has my stamp and my $$$ all over it. I'm getting into the last stretch of publishing a book on Southern Tier, Wayne Co., etc., and you can bet, anyone gave me info, data, if I used a book someone else did, you will see it cited, and where I have permission, an address to contact those (live) folks. (can't do anything about the dead ones, guys) I'm no oracle, and, doing so much "on my own" kind of, am more than likely to be fallible. Which is why I'm going to separate volumes, can add corrections as we go along. Copyright attorneys told us at a meeting, as long as we quote source, author, etc. without alteration, giving full credit, we're on safe ground. Isn't an author alive doesn't want their work thought good enuf to be used as a good source by another. Now, if our work ends up a mini series and then an epic movie, earning you bucks and residuals, you may well have to cut them a check---or at least give them a small part-----LOLOLOLOL--don't we wish--we DO play to a limited audience, unfortunately. 3. Iris, Thank you. That is exactly what I intended. I will hotlink a page from each of the cemeteries listed and put in the people that I have researched. If others do the same then eventually we have a data base. I am not trying to offend or infringe, only help people who don't live in Wayne County, PA find their dead relatives. I was just there for a week visit and visited over 12 cemeteries in two days. It was a whirlwind tour and I got a lot of info - for myself- then when I got back to Colorado I felt terrible that I did not have more time to get more info for everyone else. If anyone would like to add to the database let me know. I refer each of the numerous requests I get to the WCHS. I would like to additionally help people without always sending them somewhere else and to one more email address. 3. This is not a voting issue but a matter of copyright law. The person who does the work (and that means crawling among snakes, poison ivy, etc.) and typing up the result owns the copyright. It's also a matter of RootsWeb's rules - material cannot be posted without the permission of the author. If anyone else is willing to do the work and then donate the result, that's their privilege.
