    1. [PAWAYNE-L] Pennsylvania Lunatic Asylum
    2. Hi all-- Anyone know anything about the PA State Lunatic Asylum near Harrisburg in Dauphin Co.? My GGGrandmother was institutionalized there by "the directors" in 1869 and spent almost two years there and then was released as "stationary". She was from Olyphant. Why would she have been sent there? I would love to find this story--any ideas? Joy

    2. Frederick Myers
    3. Hello all The complete township data from Brooklyn Twp - Susuqehanna County Lehman Twp - Pike County can now be found on the website. http://www.dsdata.com.au/genealogy/nepa/census1850.html Almost 25% of the Brooklyn Twp census data is connected to "REAL families". Thanks in a great part to the interest of TEWKSBURY and associated families. I think I owe MJ a thank you for an update to one of my family lines. Thank you MJ I want to thank VERY much the volunteers that have added to the family data that connects this census data to family lineages. And especially to Leeann who is transcribing data from some of Rev. Garford Williams' publications (which are NOT copyrighted) This latest data is mostly for Wayne County townships. I offer my apologies to the people who have forwarded photos to me. The rebuild of my main computer is almost complete and I have included the photo editing software on the new configuration - so the photos will be in the next update of the website. I do have plans for Wayne county data - and I certainly welcome the corrections to my deciphering of the mid 19th century penmanship. The Lehman Twp data presented some challenges. Enjoy - Please drop me a note if you can connect with a family in the census data Fred -- _-_|\ Frederick W. 3. Hi! As per LDS records at http://www.familysearch.org you'll find seven of the eleven -- Charlotte Augusta YOUNG Oscar H. YOUNG Juliaette (Julia) E. YOUNG Violettia YOUNG Edwin W. YOUNG Martin Henry YOUNG Evelyn (Eva) B. YOUNG Since these are all ancestral files there is spouse/family info for each, as well as parental info for Nathan and Ann. There are also a few pedigree files which appear to be from a second researcher. At very least these should give you some leads to follow. Good luck! 3. Dear Anisah, Your local library should be able to look up a library that has the books you are looking for . You may even be able to interlibrary loan them. That's where one library borrows from another one. I borrowed like that from a library (public) Oklahoma to california. Its costs very little. Carlsbad library in carlsbad california has a copy of the history of wayne co . The philadelphia historical society in Philadelphia has a copy of the history of wayne and pikes co. the sutro library in San Fransico has the book. The librarian should be able to go on their computer and find all the libraries in the county that carry the books you need . You need to have the titles and other info . The library of congress has the books too. I found a rare book on the biles family by first looking in the library of congress and then found the libraries that had it . in this case it was in Ok. Hope this helps. The big LSD library in Salt lake city would have it too. M Bryan

It is time well spent if you are able to provide yourself with a good transcript when finished. So many of us try and get frustrated because we are unable to make out many of the words or terminology. We give up and then wonder if the document held the clue we needed to get us further back in our research. This program will be a 90 minute video, professionally done, to help us understand and decipher the script of our ancestors. The program is free of charge and open to the public. 3. Higginson Books (http://www.higginsonbooks.com) sells facsimile copies of out-of-print books. $119 is a good price for Mathews (Higginson is around $150). It doesn't have a good index and contains some errors, but all in all it's the best. As noted earlier, the other histories can all be purchased from the Wayne County Historical Society or the Equinunk Historical Society. 2. Hi Cousin Ed, If you know what church the person who died prior to 1893 might have belonged to, you could contact that church for an official death record. I have had some success with the other side of my mother's family at the Lutheran Church in Honesdale. The only drawback with the Lutheran Church records is that they are in German for the early years. Unfortunately, the Lutheran Church records are not 100% complete, because they lost some records during floods in Honesdale. If you have an exact date of her death, I would be willing to look for the obituary in the newspapers archives at the Wayne County Historical Society. I will be in Honesdale for a few days in the next couple weeks. Ed, If you have specific things you would like me to check for while I am there, please contact me directly. Anything for a cousin! 3. Ed, You are absolutely correct. Wayne County death records would not be in any other county. However, what the person who wrote you apparently did not know was that Pennsylvania did not start keeping death records until 1893. You might want to check with the Wayne County Historical Society to see if they have an obituary or other record. Gloria McCullough, the research librarian, also does paid research which includes a courthouse visit for wills, deeds, etc. - but of course she wouldn't find an official death record before 1893.
