Alas I can only read what is written on the records I have - being rather further removed from the research archives than most :-) to quote from the top of the census page 816 the "" secions being handwritten Free inhabitants in "Wayne Borough" in the County of "Wayne" State of "Penn" enumerated by me, on the "16th" day of "June" 1860. "Wm H Ham" Ass't Marshall Post Office "Starucca PA" At least now I understand why there was a bit of movement between Bethany and Dyberry. And why there was no linkages between the 1860 Starucca and the later (1910) entries. Thanks Anne Fred PS the link on Starucca will now actually show Starucca Thanks Lee -- _-_|\ Frederick W. Hello all Thanks to Joan Francis in creating a new site with the cemetery data for Pike county and adjoining New York. A link now appears on my general NEPA genealogy page (see below) The added data is from the 1860 census for Wayne County. Bethany Township and Wayne Boro - Starucca PO (smile Elaine) are the start. With this entry, Bethany data is included for the 1850/1860 and 1870 censuses and the migration of some families can be followed in the census information. I have included this connection where I have found them. However the matching process does not pick up the matching of names with initials only for the Christian names. So any pointers were families can be matched from one census to another is appreciated. I will continue working on finishing the 1850 Pike County census and am open to suggestions as to the next 1860 township(s) that people would like to see. Have a joyous and safe holiday season. Carol, Lake Como is a very small town in Buckingham Township, Wayne County. Any genealogical information would come from census, tax records, , wills, deeds, etc. These are available either at the Wayne County Historical Society or the Wayne County Court House, both in Honesdale. What Woodmansees are you researching? There are several Woodmansee researchers on this list, including myself. Holly, According to the Bicentennial history book, Wayne Borough was established (from parts of Preston and Scott townships) in 1853, and the name was changed to Starrucca Borough (actually it was Starucca in its earlier days - the second "r" was added later) in 1873. Neither borough existed in the 1850 census or before. It's very important in doing Wayne County research to know stuff like this - that is, the dates that townships were formed and what entities they were formed from. It's very common for families to live in the same house their entire lives but be in different geographical entities every time the census enumerator came around. Hi, I am new to this list. I have a question. My grandfather was born in Lake Como, Wayne, PA. I can find this on a map but I have not been able to find any listings in genealogy information for this location. Is this the actual name of a town/city? Should I be looking at Lake? Fred: My vote for your next work is to build on the 1860 Starrucca information with Preston, Buckingham and Scott Townships. People moved back and forth across those areas. Lee Woodmansee
Small correction. Bethany is a borough situated within Dyberry Township. It's always wise to check both for ancestors who lived in that area. And, of course, Wayne Borough later became Starrucca Borough. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Frederick Myers" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, December 20, 2001 9:02 AM Subject: [PAWAYNE-L] New NEPA census data
The Historical Society doesn't have the Times Herald Record. They have some very early papers and then the Citizen, the Herald, the Republic, the Democrat, the Independent, the Almanac, the Hancock Herald and a couple of years each of the Hawley Times and the Narrowsburg paper. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2001 6:40 AM Subject: Re: [PAWAYNE-L] Times Herald Record > The historical society in Honesdale would have it, > C.Furtaw > > > ==== PAWAYNE Mailing List ==== > Don't forget to visit the Wayne County Historical Society > 810 Main Street P.O. box 446 Honesdale, PA 18431 (570)253-3240 > [email protected] > > ============================== > Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and enjoy access to the #1 > Source for Family History Online. Thanks Fred for correcting my link address for the Times Herald Record. I also want to thank you for all the census info. you have put on the internet. Because of your information, I found my g. g. grandparents (John & Mary Law) in Honesdale. For years, I assumed they were in Texas Twp. since John owned land there. When I couldn't locate them, I decided the census taker either missed them or they had temporarily moved away. That find was a big thrill. :o) Sincerely, Elaine Frederick Myers wrote: > Sarah wrote: > >> I need an obituary from this October that was > >> published in the Times Herald Record.
