    1. [PAWAYNE] MORE ON THE TYLERS
    2. Ann O'Hara
    3. I also looked for the Tylers in the cemeteries in the area mentioned. I learned that Depuy Teeple's wife Mabel was indeed a Tyler, and since she died in 1950 could have been Roscoe's sister. There is also a Lillian Tyler born in 1892. However, I found no sign of Jefferson or Clara in Equinunk, Braman or Union. There was a Clara Tyler Cole, but she lived until 1923.

    3. Dear Carol et al., Well, I found Roscoe Tyler's obituary and it raises more questions than it answers unless someone recognizes his parents. The only Jefferson Tyler I could find on Ancestry.com for 1880 lived in Susquehanna Co. with a wife named Lovisa or Louisa. Anyway, here's the obit: The Wayne Independent, 22 Aug. 1978: ROSCOE TYLER Roscoe Tyler, 85, Equinunk, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 1978, at the Grover Hermann Division of the Community General Hospital, Callicoon, N. Y. Born in Braman on December 13, 1892, he was the son of the late Jefferson and Clara Shelden Tyler, and a member of the Union United Methodist Church. Mr. Tyler, a retired laborer, was a Veteran of World War I having served with the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion of Lookout. His wife, the former Lillian Brining, preceded him in death. Surviving are one brother, Verne Tyler, Equinunk; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Gertrude Stevenson, Bethal [sic], N. Y.; three nephews, Boyd, Frank and Leslie Tyler, Honesdale; two step-grandchildren, Bruce Stevenson, Bethal, N. Y.; and Douglas Stevenson, White Mills. Funeral services will be conducted from the Bryant Funeral Home, 1238 North Main Street, Honesdale, on Wednesdy at 2 p.m. Interment, Union cemetery, Equinunk. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Ann

    3. I am sure in your searching you found Roscoe Tyler in 1900 Wayne Co, Manchester T. living with a widowed lady, last name Cole, can't figure out her first name; she is living with her son Frank, single age 46. This Roscoe is listed as a boarder, his birth is March 1893, which does not match your obit. I sort of have been reading these emails, and not paying lots of attention. This is certainly confusing. 2. Ann O'Hara
    3. Carol, No. The only way he would be a brother-in-law is if he was the brother of Depew's wife or was married to Depew's sister. Since he was single, I made the assumption that he was Mabel Teeple's brother and indeed found a Mabel Tyler on the 1900 census. However (see my email of a couple of days ago), she was working as a servant with another family in 1900 and had not been born in 1880, so I couldn't place her with a family to test my theory. Of course, her death certificate or obituary would give good clues, but without a death date... 2. Ann, If Depew had a sibling who married a sibling of Roscoe's, would that make Roscoe, Depew's brother-in-law? I do not have any siblings for Depew Teeple and I don't have any for Roscoe either. I will await the outcome of your search for an obit for this Roscoe. Hopefully, there will be one and it will shed some light on the situation, especially who his parents were. Carol

    3. Carol, Well, as I said before I'd hazard a guess that he was Mabel Teeple's brother, the problem being that she wasn't born until 1882 so it's hard to place her with one of the multitudinous Tyler families. The Kellam's reference is a good clue, and as promised I'll take a look at obits around his time of death to see what I turn up. Exactly, which is why I looked those up and sent on---ancestry.com has them, it's a paid/subscription site--which many folks don't have. I know I sure wouldn't if my family hadn't given it to me as a joint gift. anyhow, that a good source, and sending for soc sec info also is, because generally speaking---the folks filled it out themselves. Diitto marriage applications--we filled out our own, right? Used to be, when families kind of stayed in an area? Folks used the same funeral homes--- those records are good, due to many members of a family having records in that one place. Sheila / Firehair

Often, their death dates are not reported. No burial or mo benefits, no reason to tell SS My dad was with the D & H, he's been dead 10 yrs, my mthr died young, her pension would've been under RR---neither of their numbers pop up. BUT--Ihave both their cards. and several of the Adams and Kellams et al also were RR men---it's been the sameproblem--or so familythought--until they learned, apply for their forms---and see--sure enuf---several came back.
