I wonder if Robert Tyler is living with the James Henry Minckler, son of Abraham Minckler and Claracilla Ferguson, b.4/14/1863 m. Mary Jane Wood. I have at least two children for them: James Leroy and George. I believe they lived in the Sullivan Co., NY area. James Leroy was born at "Barmans, PA" wherever that is/was. > ATTACHMENT part 5 message/rfc822 > Date: Sun, 21 Mar 2004 06:59:12 EST > From: CMMEADOWS2@aol.com > To: PAWAYNE-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [PAWAYNE] ROSCOE TYLER > > Hi Ann, > > And yet another Tyler child boarded out. Thanks to all of you who responded to the above cemetery query. I had seen that site in the past and had forgotten it. Years ago we were given directions to the Paupack Ceme.: 'Rte 6 left of lake; 1st right will follow out to Greentown. Before Greentown is Paupack Ceme.' Is this correct? We tried to find the place, but couldn't! I am interested in the cemetery because it was suggested by Ida Mae Roe (she helped me when I first began genealogy) that my Benjamin KELLEY and wife Mary (HOLE/HOEL) might be buried there. Have never found them. Diane * * * * * * ~ ~ ~ ~ Please check our Home Page ~ ~ ~ ~ * * * * * * http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/a/n/d/Sharon-D-Andreasen/
Thanks! From whom did you get the death records? The courthouse, the Historical Society, coroner's office.....? Carol, Agree. It may have been such a horror story for the children that the skedaddled as soon as they could! I did a search on Jeff and Jeffrey, but of course if it was his middle name that wouldn't work. It occurred to me that the Jefferson Tyler in Susquehanna Co. was the culprit and just never married Clara but that's pretty farfetched. Incidentally, I also checked the cemetery books yesterday and found Roscoe and his wife, but no sign of Jefferson or Clara. Donna, I hoped someone with better information would answer your query about death records. I've searched the WPA inventory of court house records microfilmed by the LDS Library, and all I found was records for 1903-1905 (p.109, entry #260, Vital Statistics, Registration of Births and Deaths) Presumably subsequent records were sent to the State Bureau of Vital Statistics. Film title is "Inventory of the county archives of Pennsylvania, #64, Wayne County (Honesdale)," Film #1035741 Item 12. I'd be pleased if someone knowledgeable about Wayne County death records could fill me in on where records prior to 1903 can be found. HI Ann, When I found Robert and noted his aged and birth year, I had the same thought that Jefferson and Clara should be together somewhere in the 1880 census. Too bad they didn't have a column to mark that the female was obviously pregnant. I also had the thought that maybe the wrong first name was used for Jefferson in the obit. I found that happened with one of my mother's grandfathers. His father had the incorrect first name in the obit. It's possible that Jefferson and Clara were middle names and not the names used on any census report. Maybe they never married because he was married to someone else and they just had this long standing affair. Maybe her given name was Clara Sheldon Tyler and she never married anybody. That would mean her middle name was Sheldon and it wasn't her maiden name. Sure wish someone who has been tracking this family would chime in their two cents about now. Carol
Hi Ann, I was wondering where Clara was too. Maybe she was married to yet another man or I thought of the possibility that she was confined somewhere...jail or asylum. If these are all her children that we have found, she sure didn't have time for much else. Besides the fact that we were trying to find where this other Roscoe belongs, I had another reason to be sorting this out. Depew Teeple was a cousin to Atlee Teeple who married my 1C1R, Ada Lester. Plus I have 26 people surnamed Tyler in my database who are some sort of cousin to me, some going back as far as the Lesters and Tylers in CT. I really appreciate all your help with this. But I love a good puzzle, whether it is the crossword variety in a book or of the genealogical variety. Carol

Carol, Interesting. If Robert is one of theirs, Jefferson and Clara should have been living togethr in 1880, even though Robert wouldn't show up on the census. Boy, this sure is getting exciting! 1. I'm still convinced that the Mabel Tyler working as a servant in 1900 is the Mabel who married Depuy Teeple. I don't see any reason why she couldn't be an older sister. That's easily checked through their marriage license, if they married in Wayne County. 2. There are more Tyler children turning up that we need. Since she had only had seven children in total (six living) by 1910, only seven at the most need to be accounted for in 1900. The ones I turned up last night were Frank (12), adopted; Mabel, 17, working as a servant in Damascus Twp.; Inez, 11, living with the Levi Teeple family (she is described as "daughter" with "step" added; Lela, 17, servant in Oregon Twp., Levinna, 19, servant in Honesdale...plus of course Roscoe and Verne. Yes, she must have farmed out all of her children...but where is she in 1900? I guess Frank Cole would only let her bring the youngest with her when they married. We're all spending a lot of time on a family that doesn't seem to be related to any of us, but it's a good exercise. Next time I'm at WCHS I'll look for the marriage licenses of Clara and Frank and Mabel and Depuy. It should confirm Mabel's maiden name and maybe the death date of Clara's first husband. There's a possibility that Clara was working elsewhere in 1900 - or maybe she was in jail! Stranger things have happened. Another thing may be significant...with all the Tylers living in Wayne County, none of the children was taken in by a Tyler. Ann
Donna, Don't know how accurate the records are. The web site is verbatim from what PP&L sent me. I have been past the cemetary but didn't stop, don't know if anyone has done a list more current or not. If anyone does, I'd be happy to add it to the website. HI, I thought maybe the Frank Tyler that I had married to Elinor Stevenson was the son of Verne Tyler, but did not want to assume anything. Thank you for the information. Carol Potter Meadows
Hi Ann, Another adopted Tyler child. This one is Wilbur, born Jul 1891. He is shown as adopted by Henry and Cassandra Brown. Carol
Hi Ann, And yet another Tyler child boarded out. This one Robert Tyler, born Sep 1880. He is boarding with James H. and Mary J. Minckler and their 6 children. Carol
Hi Ann, I may have found another of Clara's children. 1900 Census for Manchester Township, Wayne County, PA shows a Frank Tyler, born April 1888 as adopted. He is living in the household of Nicholas Kelly, who is a widower of 74. Also in the household are Nicholas' children, a daughter Emma, aged 33 and a son Joseph, aged 30. Carol
Hi Ann, I found Vern Tyler in the 1900 Census. He was 3 years old and boarding with a Thomas Caffrey family in Manchester Township, Wayne County, PA. It appears that Clara must have boarded out all of her children. Carol

Hi Ann, Boy, you were right! The obit sure did raise some questions. I have a Clara (Clarisse) Sheldon, born 23 Jan 1863 in PA, died Jan 1932. However, she is married to a Frederick A. Rivenburgh. Together they had 7 children between 1879 and 1901. Granted most of the information came from a GEDCOM posted on Rootsweb, especially the maiden name of the woman and her birth and death info. However, the names of the children and the first name of Frederick Rivenburgh's wife were verified through Census records. I did find conflicting information between census records for the 1920 Census. Mr. Rivenburgh is shown as being divorced and living with a daughter and son-in-law, Ida and Clarence Roney in Preston Township.Mrs. Rivenburgh is shown as being divorced and living as the housekeeper in the home of Frank Bush in Mount Pleasant Township. Roscoe must have married very late in life because through the 1930 Census at age 37 he is still single. However, he is boarding in the home of Bert A. Brining. I have all of the surnames mentioned in the obituary in my database, but none of the first names except for a Frank Tyler who married a second cousin Elinor Stevenson. But I have no info on Frank...just his name. I do have Elinor Stevenson's parents and grandparents. Elinor is part of my direct line. The 1910 Census shows a Verne L. Tyler, aged 13, born in PA, as the stepson of Frank Cole, aged 56, whose wife is Clara A. Cole, aged 48. On the 1900 Census Roscoe was aged 7 and shown as boarding in the household of Lidia Cole, who had a son, Frank, who is shown as 46 and single. So perhaps the Mable who was married to Depew Teeple was actually a half sibling of Roscoe and did not have the Tyler surname. Boy, what a puzzle this is!!! Thanks for the obit. Carol

I looked for Verne Tyler on the 1910 census and found him living with Frank and Clara Cole and listed as stepson to head of household. So the Clara Tyler Cole in the cemetery is almost certainly the mother of Roscoe and Verne and probably Mabel as well. Plus...she has had seven children with six living, so there are three others to account for. I haven't been able to find her in 1900, however. She and Frank had been married six years in 1910, and if they were married in Wayne County we'll have their marriage license on microfilm.
